Last weekend I finally had some spare time to start with my modding projects. I'm going to make two mods: my "Urban Knife" and the "CyberClipper".

The Urban Knife will consist of the following four layers:
- large serrated blade, divot tool (from the Golfer), corkscrew
- scissors, multipurpose hook
- spatula
- can opener, cap lifter, reamer

The CyberClipper will be a Clipper with an added Bit-holder layer from the Cybertool:
- large blade, small blade, corkscrew
- metal file, small flat screwdriver
- bit holder
- can opener, cap lifter, reamer

After deciding on the mods, it was time to decide on the donors. I sacrificed the Golfer, Serrated Spartan, Cybertool 34 and SwissChamp. Also I ordered some new scales.

Here they are, together with the Pioneer X  :D

Time to start taking them apart!  :ahhh

First: marking the center of the pins:

Then the drilling starts

Bushings came out undamaged!

Poor SwissChamp!

There certainly was a learning curve in the whole pin drilling process. The first knife took me an hour to take apart, the fourth one only ten minutes!
After some drilling this is what's left of the donors:

Time to make some new pins!

Giving myself more than enough length to work with

So basicaly you drill in the center of the pin so the bushing gets room to shove off. You reuse the bushing and hammer the top of the new pin flat (almost mushroom like) to hold the bushing in place again?
At least that's what I can understand from what I'm seeing... but on the other hand I'm sure there are enough threads explaining this subject...

Do enough cellidor mods and eventually you'll build up a stock of bushes.  You end up sanding or snipping the bushes off one side of the knife as it's too much hassle to punch and drill each one individually.

Hey Glen, you did rember which tools go with which backspring, right?

If you have an impact drill, chuck the pins in it... perfect peen head done in seconds.

I have a picture of which tool goes with which spring  :salute:

Sounds like a great trick to do peen heads... if only I read this earlier  :D
I'll remember it for the next mods. I have plenty of pins for my first two mods now.

Well, I sorted out the necessary tools for my first mod, cleaned them all and sanded the liners. Before I put the thing together i'll make a mock up first, to verify if these liners are the right liners for these tools and if everything fits.

To be continued, probably next weekend...

Had some spare time today, so started putting the thing together.

At first I was struggling a bit with the scissors, but after I got some advice and started over from the other side, I got it in.

All tools are functioning like they should, with no tools rubbing against each other  :salute:

The next step is probably the hardest: cutting the pins and peening this side of the pins.

It will probably be friday in the evening when I have the time to continue. In the mean time: anyone has some advice?

Should I put the bushings in first and then cut the pins 1 mm above the bushings? More than 1 mm? Less than 1 mm?

Just me and don't know how anyone else does this but I put the bushings first then cut the pins :tu: Putting a mod together layer by layer is a very enjoyable process to me and let's you really see how a knife works  :tu: I then would recommend as small of a ball peen hammer as you can find  I luckily had a very small one that I was given by a great uncle before I was even school age :dd: :like: I don't know the weight but it is somewhere between 4 and 6 ozs  (Don't know the kgs on it though  ) make lots of small taps and take your time. Also I have heard some of the better more experienced Modders use small shims under the bushings so you don't over peen the knife and then when they get it close to what they want they remove the shims and do the final peen before filing the top smooth before scale time :tu:

Hope that helps some but I am new to this as well. What I did do seemed to work though

Do you cut directly above that liner? Or 1mm above it?

Directly... the liner is about .8-1mm... just to get even lengths... and I file the pins flat for good peening...

Yup!  I cant remember the last time I carefully removed bushings, but I did in the old days when I didnt have spares so its a good skill to have.

Now I hold one side of the SAK against the belt grinder and it removes all the brass quite fast.  Then the outer liner lifts off and I can have it broken down to components in about 1 minute time total.
