Help torched titanium removal
on: May 11, 2017, 05:31:39 PM
I torched a titanium Bullet bead I made and I'm not 100% happy with the results. Is there anyway to remove it without sanding and re-polishing the piece?

You can use multietch or nasty hydrofloric acid to remove anodized Ti coatings.  It MIGHT work for flame anodizing as well.  If you want to try they sell hydrofloric in the US in a rust cleaner.  Its called whink.  If you try it please treat it as a crazy toxic stuff that it is.  Do it outdoors and dont breathe fumes.   :tu:

If it was me Id just sand it if possible.  I hate using chemical cleaners.

I have knife making buddies that use whink to etch Ti for anodize and it works, but I havent personally tried it.

Removing heat anodized Ti is different than regular. I believe you can heat it to yellow/orange hot and let it cool slowly to remove it.
