Got Stumped
on: May 19, 2017, 01:25:25 PM
Whilst my burn pile was underway, I wanted to have a go getting rid of this old rotting stump

I just started chipping away around the edge, bit soft in spots, still very hard in others

By this point I was spent. Going back and forth from the burn pile and hacking away at the stump without much break and supreme lack of fitness meant this will be a job to finish later

Cheers, Poncho  :tu:

The small one didn't get a look in. I guess the chainsaw might be able to tidy up the bulk of the rest which is still quite solid

It amazes me.hot stubborn some stumps are :o I had one that was partly rotted as well and did much the same as you and even tried burning it out :ahhh Finally I gave up and planted several small shrub bushes right around it and am letting mother nature take a crack at getting rid of it now :D

You did it wrong. 😉

Put that old tire over/around the stump. Put your brush over the stump and start that fire.

This one is more than 10 years old, but because it was cut about knee high from the ground, it has been slow to rot much. Where my burn pile is there used to be another stump I tried burning but it took a good long time to go. I ended up slicing into it with the chainsaw Swedish Fire Torch style and that worked a treat.

If I didn't have a 20 foot container about 2 metres away with my old car in I probably would have done that  :D
