Never used a Leatherman, here we go.
on: May 20, 2017, 07:39:51 AM
Hey folks, I spend most of my time on the SAK board so, you're welcome.  I've never carried a Leatherman anything and Leathermans that have found there way into my possession in the past have always magically turned in to SAKs.

This time I thought I'd give LM a chance though by way of keychain carry.   A Micra that's basically like new came with a lot of knives I bought on the bay.  Seeing as how I always like to have scissors, tweezers, a backup blade, and a file (Just like the classic SD) I thought I'd give an American made tool a try and supplement my pocket carry SAK, in this case an older Victorinox Pioneer Sturdy Boy.

For the next while I'm going to see how this combo works.
This one's dedicated to Ducttapetech & Poncho  :salute:

Great place to start I'd say.  I'm a big fan of the screwdrivers you get with the Micra. :tu:

The Micra is, in my opinion, one of Leatherman's all time best tools. I'm sounding like a broken record at this point, but the Micra and the Minichamp are the two best keychain multis ever.

I don't mind the Micra, but on the whole I prefer the Vic Classic, and as such I never end up carrying the Micra.

.... although I prefer the Rambler/Manager to the Classic

The Micra has quite a following and for good reason I suspect.  I gifted one to my friend who works in an office and she absolutely loves it.  I cleaned up a Squirt S4 for my daughter the other day which interestingly doesn't get as much love.  It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts after a while.

Thanks for stopping in, dudes.  The Micra's first ever task is indeed an important one:  Tightening that loose handle on El Percolator.  I don't know how my usual Classic or Rambler might have performed but the job is done and I can smell the java now.

Another long day at work and I get by with a little help from my friends, SO it was a little crowded today...  but I'll try to let the Micra get in a word in Edgewise.  If any Phillips or scissor tasks present themselves, he's got dibs.  :D

So how are you liking it?

I came for the scissors, I stayed for the screwdrivers...

Very useful.  I think my main gripe is it's a little more time consuming than a SAK to get to the tools...  and not saying the Micra is ugly but I do think the SAK wins in the looks department... IMO.

I do feel capable of a few more tasks with the Micra... Only missing the toothpick, which I do use quite a bit.

I didn't make it too far on this...

Not the Micra's fault, just my preference.    I never carried a Minichamp before b/c I thought they were bulky and a little silly, but really considering all the dimensions, it's not bigger than the Micra with quite a few more tools.  I also have a few other 58mm waiting their turn so I think I'll stick with my gut and just be an awl-Swiss kinda dude.

I'll find a good home for El Micra.

I need to try some other Wenger key chains, I only have a couple Esquires...    The Rambler/Manager seems the most practical for my use.  Which Wenger do you prefer?

The Pocket Tool Chest / Evo 88 is the Wenger equivalent of the Minichamp I suppose. I have two, one with evo scales, and one with brushed stainless scales. I'm a fan of this and the Vic Rambler, whereas the additional stuff on the Minichamp doesn't seem all that useful to me.

I preferred to buy a LM ps4 rather than a micra, because it has scissor, though smaller, and also pliers.

It's a good choice  to combo it with a sak.

I hope Ps4 scissors possess the same robustness as victorinox sd scissors. I EDC a vic manager for 10 years and never have trouble with it.
