I tend to open everything, but carefully and save the boxes, unless its a duplicate, which I dont open or try and sell if I got it for a good discountt. but I never rip into anything and I like to try everything out or whats the point? Especially don't like the fact that if you open something years after the purchase and there's a defect/problem with it, you have little to no recourse with your seller and have to go warranty route if it applies.

I once bought a Pink Floyd dvd called pulse, let it sit for a year, by the time I viewed it I found out it had a surface defect and couldn't be played, so I was screwed and had to buy another

I open everything with the intent to carry and use. Then find a EDC I like and carry the same for months on end. Then this happens to the rest. I dust them once a month.

I buy used since it's cheaper plus i know i can keep the tool and give it to a friend in need. I had like 5 spartans given away to friends during trips.

I have no reservations about using pliers-based mutlitools. I have got a Swisstool Spirit that I opened but haven't carried/used yet, but have no intention of saving it in brand new condition.

SAKs and regular folding knives are sort of a different story - I definitely have ones which I don't want to beat on or look obviously like 'users', but I'll still carry them albeit on days where I don't expect much/heavy use. Should the need arise, though, they'll be used.

I have never used nor carried any of mine
If they arrive in boxes, I'm forced to check contents to confirm its the correct model, it then goes straight back in the box and put into whichever storage box. The clamshell models are left untouched.

I'd say 90% of my Wengers are BNiB
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.
