Any UK members use other fuels in their trangia stove other than meths?

I'm asking for UK as there seem to be less fuels available here.

I used bio-ethanol from go outdoors last year when I couldn't get meths. It seemed to work ok

I love it when a plan comes together  :D

A) There's a company just 40 minutes walk from me that makes a bio-ethanol fuel specifically for camping stoves, and sells it online.
B) Kev is about half an hour's drive away.
C) I go and fetch a pack of fuel from the company
D) Kev comes here, we split the pack, then go for a couple of beers in the local boozer and take the piss out of Kirky who's not there to defend himself.

Marvellous!

Kev already knows this, but I spoke to the company this morning as collecting the stove fuel is not an option on their website. They said, no problem, and instead of charging me £20 for 6 x1L bottles as listed (which includes delivery), they'll only charge me £13. :woohoo:

One bottle from GoOutdoors is £6 (£5 with the discount card), so as well as having a mini meet and a few beers, we only end up paying £2.17 per bottle. :2tu:

Obviously, I can't get out and about as much as I used to, but at least I can use my tabletop gourmet grill (pic attached) without stinking the kitchen out.

Great plan you two

I always used Meths

But a very good friend swears by the gas fitting for the Trangia

I've been looking at them as well so I can have 3 options for the stove. It's the firebox nano stove I will use it with and you can click either the trangia alcohol burner or the gas burner into it and also have it as a wood burning stove if needed also. Those trangia gas burners are expensive.

I picked up my Trangia for around 6 $ second hand so I instead splurged on the gas fitting but I have used both moonshine (~93%) and fuel ethanol (85% ethanol, 15% petrol) in it when I couldn't get my hands on better fuel. Both sooted like crazy but didn't really impact the taste (boiling water for dry food). The usual Swedish go-to stuff would seem to be T-röd, basically pure ethanol, just make sure not to get any anywhere close to the food since the emetic used to allowing the producer to get around the taxation for spirits has been known to spoil many an outdoors meal.

The stuff we're using is labelled specifically for camping stoves, so. We should be fine  :salute:

I'll get my dog settled after his attack ordeal for the next couple of days, then I'll give you a shout if that's OK.  I'm off now until next Wednesday so it'll be over the long weekend.  :tu:

It fits perfectly in my firebox nano

BioEthanol fuel sorted thanks to 50ft-trad.

Had a drive over today to meet him and pick up the fuel.  It was great to put a face to a name and have a good old chin wag over a couple of pints , and a brew made from water heated by the very same fuel.

My first meet with someone from the forum  :tu:

After you'd gone, I turned the frame round and put the kettle back on to even up the discolouration. It certainly pumps some heat out, as it got the frame glowing red....

Just had a quick try of the fuel in my trangia and set up on a rotten old workmate in my garden. I wanted to see how easy it would light with a ferro rod and what the flame looked like.  It lit first stike of the rod and extinguished instantly when I dropped the closed simmer plate on it. A much cleaner and better smelling alternative to methylated spirit. I didn't use the wind guard so the flame got blown about, but it looks good.

I'll dig out my camping kettle tomorrow and make a brew with it.
