I have one of the old gerber clutch MTs, I wanted a gerber Dime since I first saw it, but I never got around to buying one so I've never really used one.  Is the little package opener really that useful?  Meaning, is it that much better than just using the blade???

Yes it is. You are less likely to damage the item inside the blister pack with the opener than the knife. I purchased a used MT and you can see on the top of the sheath where the knife sliced it. Small, but it is still there, and not disclosed in discription nor seen in the pictures.
