Butane stoves?

I use butane cassettes quite a bit...in tabletop stoves, with adapters for isobutane stoves, and for refilling canisters. I even have a little lantern that came with an adapter that makes it possible to use butane and isobutane cartridges, Butane stops vaporizing at 31F....as long temps are above that you should be fine.

Really cheap to run...last 4 pack I bought at the Asian market was less than $5 on sale...and they always seem to be on sale. I've got a tabletop stove set up for my Bemco oven, had to slightly trim the pot support to fit.

Butane cassettes are very popular in Asian countries. I have a couple of camp stoves that are specifically built to use them. There are a couple of other quality built stoves like these I'd like to get my hands on...

I'd recommend staying away from the cheap Chinese adapters and go for the quality Korean made Kovea...

Kovea Cobra remote adapter with a Snow Peak Giga Power...Kovea Spider stove with adapter. I've got the Spider with the butane cassette upright in the photo...if you run the cans horizontal you must make sure the notch is oriented to 12o'clock to avoid feeding liquid. Although the Spider has a generator tube...so it is actually capable of running liquid.

I was lucky enough to pick up a few bits of interest today at a flea market, and I'll post some pics shortly.

They may not seem that exciting, but wait till you hear what I paid for them!

After the Etekcity stove crapped out on us the butane stove stepped up for morning coffee making at camp, and it performed quite well.  I actually really like this stove, and in many ways I think it is superior to my propane Coleman stove.  I like that it self ignites and when done with it, it locks out the fuel source, so you can leave the butane can inside. 

The down side is that it doesn't seem to burn as hot as other stoves, and won't boil water as fast as the Etekcity stove.  Also, the butane doesn't seem to last as long as other fuel sources, but thankfully they are cheap so you can go through a bunch of them without a major investment.  Without taking the time to look around too much, I got a three pack of butane cans for ten dollars at Canadian Tire, which is about the same price as a cannister of isobutane used for the Etekcity and Jetboil type stoves. 

All in all it's a cheap stove that functions well and is remarkably safe, so I like it.  It's not the most compact stove out there, so probably not a great choice for hiking, but not a bad choice for car camping.
