Mini survival kit in a 4" Leatherman sheath
on: May 28, 2017, 10:24:58 PM
I have found the LM Rebar's leather sheath to be a great way to carry a SAK farmer and a 1×AAA flashlight.

These to items do not use the hole space in the otherwise tiny sheath, so I have carried a shortened ferro rod in the bottom for a while. The ferro rod is rolled in ducttape to avoid scratching. But there was more space in the tiny sheath and so more stuff was added...
... just for the fun of it   :D
I know a lot of survival stuff is missing (navigation, water desinfection,... etc.).

Here is the sheath and the complete content:

Contents:
Vic. Farmer.
Fenix LD01.
Ferro rod (8mm thick, shortened so it sits tight in the bottom and needs counter squezzing for removal).
10 feet of 50 pound braided fishing line.
6 fishing hooks in different small sizes (stored in a drinking straw with ducttape closure).
2 tinder tabs (soaked micro cotton balls in sealed drinking straws).

Close ups

Stucked in bottom of the sheath. Extra ducttape was added to keep it together.

The Farmer and flashlight sitting on top of the bottom contents  ;)

With a pocket clip on the flashlight, you can safely pull out the SAK without fear of loosing the flashlight  :tu:

What do I use it for ?
Not much  :D but its a fun little project with small survival kits. For camping trips I like having some redundancies on my person (knife, flashlight, ferro rod). If I decide to take a short trip to the lokal bush or beach on the way home from work ... then I only need my steel water bottle to have some fun making wild tea, cooking wild plants or other similar small projects.
Something like this (older photo):

Nothing to add apart from: Nice work! :tu:

I've got a Rebar myself so I know that pouch isn't that spacious...

Thanks guys  :salute:

Carried it today on the belt, as usual, but with the additional items... without even feeling the extra weight :sa: :D

I also like to fiddle with ideal small kits. Using the molle compatible sheath type that my OHT came with (I bought extras), I fit the following:

Farmer Alox
Bic lighter
A few petrolatum cotton balls
Mini Mag torch
Battery for torch
Squirt PS4
Metre of light paracord wrapped around

Needs a loud shrill whistle. Maybe up the paracord wrap to 2 or more metre.

A kit for light, fire, basic tools. On the belt or attached to 1st Aid and water kit. Been thinking of sewing 2 or 3 together for a super belt.

Photo soon.

Late to the party...

What do I use it for ?
Not much  :D

And that's the answer you want to keep. Becuase there will be the day when the answer is "a lot". Which day will feel worse? The one where you say "dude, your paranoid, leave it at home", or the one where you say "oh wow, I needed it".

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

Its fun to build kits like these.  Toss it in the car or a pack and regardless you are set.
