Post no 100 and my perfect multitool grab bag
on: April 05, 2025, 03:00:21 PM
Inspired by the thread "The perfect multitool...." I thought I would present my take on it.

First - I am totally with ReamerPunch in that specially aimed tools for every task normally is the best way to go (I have all those tools). And that there is no perfect multitool for every task.

For when going to the boat, car, motorcycle, moped, bike, hunting, fishing or any other "on the go" job, I have made this grab bag. Or pouch is maybe a better word?

With it I can deal with most things that can happen "on the go". It has saved me and others many times already. It is second best to having a big and heavy toolbox with me.

Putting this together has an element of luck to it. The luck was wanting to add a couple of small 125mm Knipex to my Knipex herd and in that I opted to buy them as a kit. The kit is named 00 20 72 V04:

I have always bought Knipex and I knew I was going to love the tools. BUT - what added real value was the pouch!

It started with me thinking "what a big pouch for these small tools". And then it started...

First I did away with the Knipex logo in rubber. I do not like big logos on my things. After ridding the pouch of the logo I noticed that suddenly there was room for 4 cards or cash on the backside - as the seams were gone.

One nice thing about the lid of the pouch is that if you want, you can fasten it like this...

...To have it sort of dangling if putting the loop around your belt. OR - use the back clip if wanting it to be more stable:

Sooo... what fits in the pouch - making it my perfect multitool grab bag?!

I believe all here can appreciate the width and depth of tasks that can be performed just looking at the pictures. Only thing that does not show is the strong magnet on the torch. Very handy in many ways.

The SAK is a one layer Waiter but a 2 or 3 layer fits. I just do not need it. Wait... A Compact would add bigger scissors than the Wave and I would get a ball point pen too (the one in the pics above is a lead).

The perfect mix can always be improved!

 ;)

What?  :ahhh They should sell it like that! Have the logo be sewn only on the sides, leaving the lid pocket open for stuff! :salute:
Great loadout, and congrats on the 100 posts!

Very nice kit!

Congratulations on your 100th posts,  :tu:  J2000E

Be careful with the flashlight magnet and your cards stored in the flap. Great idea.!!!

Magnets and card stripes are not always compatible!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

You can fit a lot of gear in that pouch! :o I like the ability to fold the flap into a belt loop; I'd probably sew it in that position. Congratulations on becoming a Full Member!

Update after this summer.

Even if the Leatherman pliers are nice I thought a Knipex would be nicer...

Got rid of the bulky plastics

Nice triple combo

Rearranged the pouch - moving the flashlight to the outside (with the clip over the loop - securing it) to get the pliers inside. Both Leatherman bit holders are now on one side. And exchanged the Waiter for a Compact.

 :iagree:

It is perfectly acceptable to tweak your kit!

Finding a better tool, revising a method. Or, elimination of a tool is always part of the process .

I really like that idea.  Also, you can plastidip those naked handles in red to make it look like a matching set.  And of course to make them insulated and "grippier".
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Great kt!  I love my Knipex tools, but I had no idea they had this great pouch.  Very cool.  :tu:

I always try to buy the versions of each tool that have the simpler coated handles rather than the "comfort" grips.
