Surge or ReBar?
Reply #60 on: June 22, 2017, 02:07:07 PM
I was playing with my kids paints tonight (crappy water based ones that don't stain ). Stolen idea from ducttapetech I must admit.

I really like the red on black. The crappy paint almost wipes off with my finger so off the the shop tomorrow if I have some free time during work.
Would an oil based paint adhere a little better or perhaps something else like nail polish?

Nice !

Nail polish will work well but I would get some Testors acrylic model paint.

Still haven't got around to getting some cool paint for my handles.
But I did however contact leatherman about the crooked handles to see what they thought because they bug me every time I put them out of the sheath.
This was Leatherman Australia's response to my question:

Hi Tom,

I have seen a few like this in the past, but when opened up to use the pliers, the pliers are still flush.
All Leatherman tools are hand made so there have been imprefections in the past, but none that would affect performance of the tool.
If you aren't satisfied you could send it in to warranty by downloading the warranty form at leatherman.com.au and filling it out accordingly.

Regards,
Shane Hughes (Customer Service)

I was pretty satisfied with the response but unsure as to whether I will be sending the tool in or not?

It depends on whether you want a tool that does stuff and/or one to look at.
Does everything else work OK?
Chances are you may send it in, only to receive another with a worse imperfection.

Update:
Dude at work just got his first LM and it's a SS Surge.
Guess what - the handles don't line up just like mine.
So I have come to terms and will definitely not be sending my Surge in for warranty. Still needs some working in the tools inside the handles and a fresh paint job and this beast will be sweet .
