In praise of the Swisstool
on: October 15, 2008, 08:28:31 AM
I own an older model Swisstool, and got a chance to use it in anger recently, which was nice. The job was simple enough, fitting a set of new handles to a door, but to do so I had to modify an existing shoot bolt which could not be moved. This involved making a couple of cuts in the shoot bolt mounting plate and bending the tab of metal out of the way so the door handle would fit. Sorry if my explanation of the job is poor, but it just involved using the tool for some cutting, some heavy bending using the pliers, smoothing of sharp edges with the file, and of course driving some phllips headed screws. Anyhow, I really appreciated the fact that the pliers were not fine needle nose, TBH the Charge might have done the job, but I would have been worried about something breaking  ???  ( not knocking the Charge though )  The file was surprisingly effective, and the phillips driver did what it should do. I definitely like the Swisstool  :D

The larger plier head really goes well with the general rugged feel of the SwissTool. I generally prefer the more needle nose style found on other multitools, but I am very glad to have the option of beefy pliers when needed.

It's a good tool Micky, and being a newbie I get a lot of fun out of the fact that a MT like this one packs a lot of useful tools and is so user friendly  :D

Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!

Since I tried and in one case rediscovered Swisstools and Spirits my Leathermans have been relegated to the kitchen drawer. The only Leatherman I carry with any degree of regularity is the Skeletool CX. The only feature I miss is one hand opening. You buggers are to blame !

And now the Skeletool may get knocked out of the lineup , as Im thinking of going with a plier bearing SAK for off duty carry.
