It's good that they gave you an acceptable solution but that doesn't excuse shoddy workmanship on the knife in the first place. At least in my opinion, a luxury brand such as a fine shotgun manufacturer should not accept such glaring defects in a new knife with their name on it.
It's not like it's a tissue paper manufacturer trying to break into the nuclear power plant business. Purdey makes guns, for heaven's sake. They know how to work steel, brass, and wood properly. They probably have plenty of experience with bone or ivory inlays as well. They know how to finish a piece of metal and wood (or bone) properly, and a much more complex piece of metal and wood than a lockback folding knife at that.
