Surge and Super Tool 300 pliers head revision
on: June 15, 2017, 01:12:19 AM
I have noticed that the pliers heads incorporating replaceable cutters on these tools have two sizes of "fine" teeth.
It seems that earlier models have very fine teeth and that later models have more of a "medium" size.
See photo:
Does anybody have information on the exact timing or reason for the change?

So far I have compiled this list:
Surge BO 0813 & 1113 : Fine
ST300 SS 1113 & 1213 : Fine
ST300 BO 0414 & 0414 : Fine
ST300 BO 0815 & 0815: Medium
Surge BO 0616 & 1216: Medium

I asked the same thing a while back. I was kind of perturbed that they switched because the large serrations are often too big for holding small wire and needles.

Thanks much for that. It seems like the dates fall right in line with the previous threads. Unfortunately, I like the finer teeth better, but I do have at least one of each to play with.

No problem.  Perhaps I'm thinking too deeply into it but I've always wondered if newer pliers, because the teeth are more pronounced would be more prone to cracking?

Same on Waves. I like larger teeth more, I have one TTi with large teeth. Not sure about the cracking, but the old ones break easily at least (for my use).

I'm not worried about breaking. Although I've got decent grip strength, if I really need to crank on nut, bolt, or other object, I'll use a dedicated tool.
