Replace Awl on 77 Soldier.

Hey all,  I have a 77 Vic Soldier w/ damaged awl.  I would like to replace it,  I even have another Vic I would be willing to sacrifice for the awl.   

Any advice?   Should I send it to Victorinox?

Should this thread be moved to the SAK or Collector's forum?

DIY isn't too hard if you fancied having a go yourself (unless it's got a bail).  You could send it in, but it'll probably cost you.

If you want it done properly check out Syph007 - he may be able to do it for you and his work is amazing.

If you want to have a go yourself, it would just be a matter of drilling out the one pin, removing the old awl, drop in the new and peen it back together. All you'd need is the pin and I could send you one along with the package that is still  awaiting your address.

The last time I sent a tool in to the local Victorinox distributor they said it'd be a £10 charge if it needed repairing because of misuse.  As it turned out, they replaced the tool FOC.  I'd contact Vic US and see what they say.

If I had to guess, they'll offer to replace it with a Pioneer, citing that it's the same toolset.
