Leatherman Surge broken!

Has anyone had this happen before, was using it and the handle just went all floppy. Found this crack in the handle, I guess I'll find out how good leathermans UK warranty is.

I have heard of this problem a few times and it is definitely a manufacturing defect
Hope they take good care of you with the warranty as this is what kind of stuff it should cover
I have heard mostly good things about Whitby (the UK distributor still I think
) Good luck either way

Yeah thats never good. I would think a New Surge should be in your future. Let us know how you are treated.

Not seen a Surge break there before, I've got 3 of them and haven't busted one yet (famous last words!).
So when you get the replacement attack the replaceable cutters with a grinder to reclaim the lost space

Once you cold fold sheet metal (taken it's past it's yield point) you have already weakened it. Occasionally a less than fully homogenous piece of steel or one with a slightly lower than normal ductility will be overly strained by the bend and leave it cracked, or prone to cracking. When I first cut my teeth in engineering, I was working in a drawing office designing sheet metalworking machinery. I have seen a lot of materials tear or induce fissures around bends. It happens
This is no fault of Leatherman's, it's just one of the few bits of metal that didn't take the bend well, and the reason warranties exist. One of those faults that only becomes apparent with the passage of time.
Send it straight in, they'll get it sorted for you.
