I got a old knife that was my grandfathers, the knifes in bad shape the handles wrapped in electrical tape and the sheath looks kinda like that one, but i think it's got an Indian head or scout stamp and a little metal trim. Maybe I'll dig it out tomorrow. It's been a while, maybe I can clean it up,

That's awesome, thanks for sharing that; it would be good if you could restore them seeing as it was your Grandfathers', if not then at least make sure it doesn't deteriorate further. The sheath is actually in worse condition than it looks in the pic. I didn't want to lose what's left of the names on it so with a new one I don't have to worry about damaging the sheath, as the knife is in with others that get moved around a bit.

Something a bit different. This is the start of a frog for my Remington 1915 dated P1907 bayonet.  I'll also have to make and attach a small strap and buckle across the top of the locket opening.

Made a few myself. The welt is just there to stop the blade cutting through the stitching and on the blunt side to shape the sheath. I normally don't use rivets on sheaths.
But if someone ask for them I do fit it. Nice work there mate

Hey they're great! Way ahead of where I am, I don't do tooling either. I started because I wanted to recreate some falling apart WW2 sheaths that's why I'm using rivets. Yours are terrific thanks for showing them.

Just the strap and buckle and a couple of rivets to go.

Pretty cool! Love the aged look.

When I saw the first pics, I thought of adding a little strip of leather, with a couple of press butons, to keep the "scabbard" in place (probably not needed, just being overly careful). The idea is to ensure the scabbard stays in place and doesn't fall, no matter what you do.

Something like this:

That's a good idea. If I did that I would probably have one snap and permanently attach the other side. This is one of the several original leather frog styles that I'm trying to do. Thanks for the encouragement and ideas. If I can't find the hardware (buckle) small enough the snap option is a good one.

The finished .303 bayonet sheath- fairly happy

Also a sheath for a late war Kabar that didn't come with one.  The dyeing is in need of more practice as can bee seen by the difference in colour from belt loop to sheath body.
I'm using spirit based dyes so may get an oil based dye to compare with.

Nice work there.
Measure all the pieces and allow for a bit extra. Then do the dye first and then cut everything out.

Thanks MusicMen  :tu: I hand stitch using a little hobby vice but I am planning to get a stitching horse as the thread keeps getting snagged on the handle and guide rods.

This is my latest WW2 copy, a USN mk 1 sheath for my Pal RH-35. I only had the photo to go on this time so guessed the dimensions.  :)
The extra length in the belt loop is intentional though.
