"Isn't the Stgw 90 just a Sig SG 550?"Yes and no. The Stgw 90 is the Swiss military designation for the SIG 550 with a 1:10 barrel twist rate for the 5.6mm Gewehr Patrone 90, and with a 4 settings fire selector.
We all are familair with the bayonet for the Swiss Stgw 90 rifle, aren't we!? This SAK bayonet was made by Wenger and Victorinox. The first batch was individually numbered. After a few thousand (I don't know how many exactly) the individual number was dropped. Are the numbered specimens different from the unnumbered? The answer is YES, they are!I have a specimen of both types and today I decided to unscrew the plastic handles. On the outside they look the same but on the inside they differ. The new type has:- some extra reinforcements inside,- the number '94' is hot stamped on the inside were (while the numbered specimen has a sort of handwritten '89')- the blade is stamped '95',- the front hole is smaller,- a finer finish of the blade.More pics will follow soon.
