Underequipped mountain trip
on: June 27, 2017, 05:07:54 AM
Went on a mountain climbing trip with some people, what I thought was walking the trails turned out to be no trails at all, we were just going through the forest and undergrowth (being tall seriously sucks in dense trees), sometimes on hands and knees and going up/down 40 degree slopes. I was seriously underequipped but luckily had my leatherman with me, and made some walking sticks so at least it was doable.

Local scenary

Busting through the woods

Procuring walking stick

Finally out of the woods

We didn't make it to the top, probably a good thing for me, I have enough scratches on my arms and legs as it is.  :D

My reciprocating saw blade addition turned out to be excellent for green wood, better than the OEM version actually because the 6 TPI blade doesn't plug up (but it sucks on dry wood), plus the sharp spine is excellent for debarking.

You're not underequipped until you go out in flipflops and a 12oz bottle of water. Then you become what we call dumb tourist

+1!

Now I'm wondering how the SAK saw stacks up against the reciprocating saw for green wood?
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Looks like you are having a great time!

Maybe I missed it, but where are you this year?

Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

Thanks all!

All those double teeth type tend to plug up easier, but they are a good balance for different material. I sharpened the recip blade to a fleamed teeth pattern and zero rake so it's very aggressive, but almost impossible to use on dry wood.

Same as last year, not 100% by choice, more like family obligations.  :D
