New wave w/o date code
on: June 28, 2017, 03:09:11 AM
 ???
I've a new wave from a friend.
I'm sure it's legit but I doesn't have date on it.
Nor the new style date on the side or the old one.
Could this be possible?

I don't know what to think.
I'll post pictures later.
Thanks in advance.

The codes stamp on the sides can be lightly impressed into the metal.
My newest one was very difficult to see, required a flashlight, it made it easier to see the impression of the numbers from a angle.
They were 0716 and 0816.  This one is Stainless.  My Orange one was even more difficult.

I think the Rebar and possibly the Skeletool do not have date codes. I found a code on all other LM gadgets I have.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I have one where the stamping is so light I have to use a 10x glass to see it, and then there are numbers I can't tell for sure.
"On the old highway maps of America, the main routes were red and the back
roads blue. Now even the colors are changing. But in those brevities just before
dawn and a little after dusk — times neither day nor night— the old roads
return to the sky some of its color. Then, in truth, they carry a mysterious cast
of blue, and it's that time when the pull of the blue highway is strongest, when
the open road is a beckoning, a strangeness, a place where a man can lose
himself."   William Least Heat Moon

Although some of my LM tools have extremely light date stamps, my SS Wave (0117/0117) is stamped very well. My old eyes still require a flashlight and reading glasses to make out the numbers.

Wrong number and location, but in the area.

With inside tools open, on the same side of handle as Leatherman etch, look inside the area about half way. Just below the 2" mark on one side, below the 16cm on other.  Use a flashlight to impose a shadow effect on the stamp.

Neub jumping in...
I have TWO new Waves, both have 5 digit stamp.
Overcame by curiosity, I had a live chat with Leatherman customer service earlier.
Apparently, as of 2017, the design team started using 5 or 6 digit date stamp instead of/as well as 4 digit.
5 digit date is MDDYY. (eg. 51917 = May 19th 2017). I presume the dates from October to December are stamped with 6 digits.

I also had an Original Wave with 4 digit stamp... It was sent for repair a few weeks ago, and came back a brand new current model Wave (one of the two). Guarantee promise is real... but I'm not totally sure if I'm happy to have lost the original...
