Chrome users can download this extension to see old threads with PB photos. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-embed-fix/naolkcpnnlofnnghnmfegnfnflicjjgj/related?hl=en

Opera users can use above extension, after install an Opera extension named "install chrome extension"

It seems I am now also a victim of the Great Photobucket Purge.

Hello ,

This message is to inform you that the Plus 20 Plan has been discontinued. Your account is currently in good standing for the duration of your current term.

If you do not migrate on or before your current contract expiration date, your account will automatically revert to a Free Account.

You will lose all features and functionality of your present plan and may potentially be locked out.

We highly recommend that you migrate your sooner rather than later as our plan pricing will increase in the near future.

As a bonus, please use this one time code to get a discount of $9.99

Yeah... $9.99 discount off $400.  Sorry Photobucket, you can stuff it in your hiney and twirl.

I thought perhaps I had been spared as I have been a paid Photobucket member since 2009 when my SHOT photos had been "borrowed" by a number of other forums and I had run out of bandwidth.  Every month since then I have paid PB for the privilege of.... nothing.  That was the only month I'd ever maxed out a free account, but at $3.99/month I figured it was cheap insurance.

I am looking forward to watching Photobucket go under, although there are a lot of those photos currently posted on this forum, and I am not happy about us taking yet another hit from those smurfholes.  Still, for $400 annually they can lick my smurf until they smurf on the smurfing smurf they smurfed in on.  Sideways.

I've migrated to imgur since my ad-free account expired, think I'll actually delete my PB account since nothing will show up from there anyway.

Also I think the plug-in to show blocked PB image is broken now, not surprised they plugged it.

so I have managed to use a script to mirror out Grant's account and put it on our own hosting, then swapped out the PB url for ours. That sorts out any linked images here on the forum, at least for the foreseeable future... I have a few more things I'd like to do, but it's less urgent.

If anyone has PB accounts that are providing images to the forum, we can host the relevant images for you so that no threads are broken. Just get in touch with me.

smurfing Photobucket- their service wasn't that great before and it certainly isn't any better now that they are expecting people to pay for it.

I have to say, while working through the extraction process, even on a paid account, the servers are sluggish.

I don't envy anyone who has to work on an even bigger account...

I thought we were fotally tucked on this one, and the best I could come up with was just downloading my files and taking the hit to the forum.  Everyone here owes you a serious thanks.   :tu:

My account hasn't been messed with yet but I fear the writing is on the wall. I think they are going to pull the same crap as they did with Def. Now if all my photos get yanked from this forum, that could cause a lot of headaches for everyone...possibly.

Micah, can something be done for the thousands of photos I have on this forum?

Yes.

Follow up to step 9, send me the list you create, I can then download and add them into our hosting, once that is sorted then I mass replace the PB URL part for our local part. Actually, might be worthwhile breaking into several lists of about 500-1000 items each, after a certain number of selected photos on Grant's profile PB became unresponsive to me so I split into multiples, and if you have albums you want a copy of but not hosted as they are not forum related separate that list too. The main drawback being that it only creates folders one level deep when it downloads (I can use the original list to correct this, I also have to replace the html %20 with a space in file/album names), and the secondary issue is that any similarly named files in sub albums overwrite each other. Obviously I can break the lists down to download only sub albums one by one (which is what I did before to sort out some conflicting filenames) The other temporary caveat is that I am dumping to non world browse able folders on our server, the direct image links work, but you cannot browse them by folder yet or manipulate them in any way (manually via FTP only). Does that make any sense? This applies for any forum user who has photos linked in the forum, we can host them so the threads don't fill full of broken pb images.

I thought I'd cancelled my Photobucket account a while ago, but the other day they took yet another payment.  I meant to cancel it then, but I was busy with something else and forgot again for a little while.  Then just a few minutes ago I got this email from them:

Quote
Hello ,

We would like to offer a tailored plan for users just like you - our Premium plan for $99.99 / year.

The Premium plan will provide 3rd party hosting for non-commercial use on your forums, blogs, and personal websites*. Additionally, you will be able to store up to 300,000 photos.

We are working on some exciting changes for 2018. This is our exclusive introductory price and this offer will expire in 7 days.

Thank you very much for your continued support.

-Sebastian

First I logged into Paypal and cancelled my subscription- a subscription I have been paying for for years, despite not using enough resources to warrant a paid account.  I could have been free all these years, but I chose to keep paying.... until now, when they have royally pissed in their cornflakes in my mind by damaging MY forum and OUR community.

Once I was satisfied the subscription was cancelled, I wrote Sebastian the following message:

Quote
Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for your message- it has reminded me to cancel my longstanding subscription with Photobucket.  I'd tell you why, but I am sure it would be nothing you haven't heard before, and likely with no better phrasing than has been used by others.

Good luck on your downward spiral- I doubt you could chase users away any faster if you used torches and pitchforks!

Grant

I love a well worded "go smurf yourself" letter.   >:D
