We are not alone, I saw some Mandalorian related posts on FB complaining that all theirs are broken on various forums too...

I can understand that they perhaps grew too big to be able to offer free services but I'm guessing they are about to lose the vast majority of their users.

Well, the way they are going, they certainly have found one solution to the "growing too big" problem.  Still, they are more ad nowadays than site, so I can't imagine they are suffering from a lack of income.  Knowing how few ads we have and what they bring in monthly on a relatively tiny, niche site I can only imagine the cheques that Google writes them each month.   :ahhh

Mine seem to be OK so far - is it only if you reach 100% that they do this?

I never liked using Fartobucket anyway. To be honest I hardly post pics these days because I find the whole uploading to a hosting site thing annoying and time-consuming.

I only have around 600 or so images on there so I think that they are just targeting people that are 3rd party hosting like we are here at MTO :( Hope they don't get you either Syncop :salute:

I have used 6%, so no.

However, it has to do with the traffic your pics are getting. As in if you're 3rd party hosting like we do here, linking pics to a forum.

Because if you're viewing the pics here, you're not watching their ads there... Totally (NOT) makes sense

Good to see this being tackled at the forum level rather than just suggesting to people to switch to other free hosting services. I make no money from any pictures I post but they are just being posted for the beneft of the forum debers. I therefore do not intend to pay for a service i do not personally need. If i need to send photographs to specific people i use email or facebook etc.

I did suggest that the number of attachments be increased to 10 from 4 as this would negate the need for outside hosting.  4 attachements are not enough for traveling threads or threads on unusual collections or tools. They are fine for showing your daily carry etc. but these threads tend to have photographs of already known tools that need no description.

The survival of the forum and its profitability depend on its content, and not just on the number of posts or threads it has. I doubt many new members come to see the spam threads.

I had a huge issue with their mobile app. I'll check how Flickr and Imgur have set up theirs (if they have 'em) so I can finally post more pics

I haven't received anything, can someone take a look at my other thread and see if the pics are broken already? Refresh the page if you have seen it.

The problem with these hosts move to paid only is there's no option for small guys who uploads maybe 10 pics a month, I sure ain't going to pay $400 a year for that. When Imageshack moved to paid only it was the same deal, if they had some option for small guys and less than $20 a year, I would've paid and stayed, heck I paid the ad free option for photobucket.

This is terrible news for forums, so many informative threads that NEED and have to have photos for explanations sake, gone and useless now... an absoloute shame. I have many informative threads bookmarked that I reference from time to time and now there useless... and to get people to remake all those threads would be an impossible challenge, this sux!

they couldn't have made it where all those photos would stay and not smurf all the forums out there, and then change features going forward   :twak: :twak: :twak:

It's just a matter of time for the other "free" sites that people are flocking too will do a similar option  why don't people just upload straight to this site?! :twak: please folks, take notice!!

I'm sad.  :-\

I have an idea that might be worthwhile for someone with more programming experience to tackle. In fact, if one of the photobarfit competitors were to implement, could result in them stealing a crap load of clients, and making a lot of forum owners/users happy.

This forum software has a word replace function built in, in the past we used it to rewrite shortened/mobile youtube urls to a format the auto embed addon recognized.

In theory if we implemented it for any photobucket links, we could then change them to another gallery provider.

The alternative provider would have to use some URL rewriting to mimic a virtual path to the image, and likely a field to input the old photobucket urls on a per photo basis.

ie:
Code: [Select]
photobucket.com/user/directory/someimage.jpg
becomes :
alternategallery.com/user/directory/someimage.jpg
even if the actual link is totally different format like:
alternategallery.com/photobarfuser/directory/image001.jpg

If that makes sense. It's only an idea, I'm not sure how feasible it is to implement... but it does seem like it would make a lot of people  :2tu:

It shouldn't be too hard to rewrite the urls. But you'd have to physically copy all the Photobucket pics as well, either to your own server or another provider (or even to a single paid Photobucket account :-\).

I just finished downloading all my photosuckit pics.  Sons of whores blocked ftp access and want you to download one album at a time and fill out a captcha each time!!!! Burn in hell PB.

Anyway... I found a paid for chrome plugin ($2 well spent), that made this easy.  It puts a download link on each PB page (see red arrow) and you just click and it completes almost instantly.  Highly recommended if you have lots of albums.  If you search photobucket in chrome addons you'll see it.  Could not find one for firefox.

These jokers are playing russian roulette with a single shot pistol. All we have to do is step back and wait for the inevitable. I understand they are claiming that this is because a lot of people were using the site for free image hosting for businesses- fine, shut those guys down until they pay, call the rest of us a loss leader, write it off and move on. But no... they had to maximize the profit. Greed will be there undoing.

Well it's taken me a few hours, but I've managed to download everything I wanted archiving locally. I have left some stuff up which is MTO relevant in the vain hope they relent on this situation when everyone starts leaving, but otherwise I don't care much for what happens to the company. All my pics in future (as they have been for the last 12 months or so anyway) will be loaded directly to the forum. It's safer for the security and continuity of forum content.
