Ontario/Quebec Meetup?
on: June 30, 2017, 04:17:09 PM
There's a few of us in the Ottawa/Montreal corridor and I was thinking that maybe it was time we started thinking about having a meetup of our own- no reason the Brits should have all of the fun!

There's a number of campgrounds (provincial and private) in the area, and I am certain we could find one that could/would accommodate some MTO nonsense if we could get a few people interested.

Toolslinger?  JP?  JZMTL?  Black Rose?  I know all of you are in the area....  :pok:

And anyone else in the area or willing to travel?

Sounds good to me.  I was initially thinking maybe Voyager Park but I'm open to ideas, dates etc.

As for permission, feel free to bring the family- I will be bringing mine. :D

Voyageur isn't too shabby. Not my favourite Provincial Park, but not on my "never camp there again" list...

Depending on the date, I'd be up for it.

What is one of your favourites?

We haven't gone camping that far east.

We have done Achray, Bon Echo, Driftwood, Lake of Two Rivers and the Barron Canyon paddle as a family unit.

Top fave is Bonnecherre. Great sites right on the water and the fishing is top notch for Pike and Bass.

Least fave is Rideau River. Terrible sites and not well maintained.

The mighty Bonnechere River! I have done a lazy paddle past the Park. The sites did look very nice.  I should look at taking the unit there this summer if it isn't booked up. Plus, it is close. Thanks for the tip!

How I wish I could join you guys! A meetup in the Great White North! Just think, we could be roaming the wilderness. Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia... The giant redwood, the larch, the fir, the mighty scots pine. The smell of fresh-cut timber! The crash of mighty trees! With my best girlie by my side... We'd sing... sing... sing.
 :woohoo: :woohoo:

Sorry, got a bit carried away there. Pay no attention to me. Nothing to see here. Carry on. As you were.

Unfortunately due to some personal issues I was unable to follow through on this.

I might be game for a Canadian meet-up in warmer weather.

I'm up for a meetup in the spring or summer.  I'd probably also be up for something in the winter if anyone else was as well, although cold is not usually my preferred weather!

I'm an arthritic Canadian, which means I dream of being a Snowbird!

Summer hurts because I do things to aggravate my old injuries.  Winter hurts so much that I can't do anything in the first place.

Two snowflakes are falling down...
[1st snowflake]I'm going to Canada, there I can lie around all winter
[2nd snowflake]I'm going to New York, there I can spread panic

 :P ::)

I love snow, I love rain and I love cold, the only thing I don't like is rain AND cold together.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Then avoid the East Coast of Canada.  I have worked outside in -10 to -15 weather when it was raining.  I don't know how that was possible, but it happened.

Well, I have never worked outside... I imagine that would change my like of cold weather too. And cold does not equal cold. I would say below -10°C it stops being cold and becomes smurfing cold :P

Where I grew up, it went from an average of +40C in the summer to -40C in the winter, but it was a dry cold and I would take -40C in Winnipeg any day over -10C in Halifax.

I have always worked in the field and got to experience winter first hand, and I'll tell you this- the coast is the worst place to be in the cold weather, because the winds are strong and the moisture from the ocean soaks you and chills you in ways that mere extreme cold can't.  I have become a connoisseur of cold in my travels, having experienced it in the mountains, on the plains, in the valleys and on the ocean and the ocean is the absolute worst.  You can dress for all of the other types of cold, but you can't dress for wet cold.   :ahhh

This seems like an OK thread to ask this question. Is Quebec really pronounced Kebec or is someone pulling my leg? Dont want to offend someone while I am there in a week.

We stop working when it´s raining. It´s not like we´re afraid to melt, being wet in a cold wind is dangerous. Wind chill might triple when wet.

To be honest as long as you don't pronounce Montreal with a hard "ON" (if should be pronounced Muntreal) you're set
