How Tough are Swisstool's ?
on: May 07, 2008, 07:19:17 AM
I am thinking of getting a swisstool for a friend who will be doing laboring on a pig farm. I have a Leatherman  Surge which feels unbreakable. I am leaning towards a Swisstool because they look so nice & I can get one for a lot cheaper than a Surge. So are Swisstools as tough as they are pretty?

The Swisstool is all but indestructable, it is generally regarded as the toughest tool out there, certainly you VERY rarely hear of anyone having any problems with them :)

I've used and ocationally abused mine for 2 years now, and it's still like new, no wear or tear is evident on it at all :)

Plus if it's going to be used in a farm enviroment, it'd be good to have a tool that's as close to rust proof as you can get :)

They certainly are.  Everything on it feels really solid, far more than anything else I own.

I am sure it would serve him/her well.  :)

I've been EDCing a SwissTool for several years now.  I've used and abused it thoroughly without a single failure.  A few months ago one of the guys at work needed his Leatherman sheath riveted back together.  I used the SwissTool as the anvil, inside the sheath to pound the rivets against.

I've looked at and handled other tools, some have nice features and are probably very good and sturdy.  For my taste, nothing beats the SwissTool.

I am big fan of the Swisstool and find it tough enough for any tasks from fencing in the garden to any D.I.Y in the house and even prying open locker doors at work when I forget my keys. The best thing of all is that it's so easy to clean up and virtually rust proof

VERY VERY TOUGH.

I have owned PST's, Side Clip, Super Tool, Wave, Core, Kershaw, Buck Tool,
Shrade Tough Tool, Gerber Multitool.  (I have owned alot).

I have a bad habit of buying a new "toy" and then compare it to the Swiss Tool and after they fail I get rid of them.

I have only found one tool that compares to the Swiss Tool and it is the Spirit.

Just as tough (i.m.o) but lighter.   If you get your friend a Swiss Tool you will probably end up getting yourself one.   JUST BE WARNED.

Yes its my number one choice to save the world  :D They are very tough but remember not unbreakable .In my opinion they are the toughest multitool on the market and as some of the regular members of this forum know I use mine in quite a harsh enviroment .

Do you have one when you compare the Swisstool and Powerlock's wire cutters?

My first multitool was a Swisstool, and I gave it away.  Too big.  To bulky.  I never had anything to compare it to, so I figured it was too cumbersome and hard to open.  I have since had a Wave, Sideclip, SOG, handled the Core, Surge, Supertool, some Gerbers, and have been since given an original Swisstool by a friend, so in essence I have come full circle, and after having dealt with the others, I can definitely say the Swisstool is the toughest tool in the world.  As someone else said on here, other tools have fancier features, one hand opening blades, bit drivers, switchable files and saws, etc., but other then a really pretty, shiny polish, the Swisstool is a pretty solid, no nonsense tool that does it's job with no bells and whistles, is reliable, and will last forever.  It is the KING of all multitools.  Mine is an original, 1998 tool, and I was told it has been used hard.  However, other then a few scratches on the knife blades from sharpening, and the fact that the red Victorinox label has faded away (I finished the job as there was not much left), the tool still looks in pristine shape.  I've had it for about a month now (maybe a little more), and have used it hard, and it stands up to anything and everything with a smile.
All hail the King.   :multi:

Nope,The reason i switched to the X from a Leatherman SuperTool was because of the scissors. If Leatherman had put scissors on the Original Super, which I liked better than the 200 I would have never looked at the SwissTool.
