Let me clarify my question a bit more: why from the other years, with regular SAK issues, some years seem much more difficult to find, worldwide, compared with other years? And my example was the '69.I can't tell you why exactly other than "They seem to have made less that year". I can tell you which years show up less, which is something that can be observed. Here's an updated version of the Soldier sales graph I made last year:(Image removed from quote.)Updating from the old trivia thread, since I posted that there have been three 1960 models that have gone up for sale, so we can now say that there is a dated Soldier knife for every year since 1921. You can see from this graph the years that show up the least post WWII are: 1961, 1960, 1958, 1946, 1995, 1974, 1972, 1969, 1951 and 1959. Note to anyone paying $200 for a 2008 M651 Soldier - 2008 is not shown on this graph because there have been so many of them sold (250+) that it skews the Y axis and makes it harder to see the numbers on the other years. They are very, very not rare.
Right. Let me clarify my question a bit more: why from the other years, with regular SAK issues, some years seem much more difficult to find, worldwide, compared with other years? And my example was the '69.
Yeah, what about a new SAK with name and year engraved? Amazon are doing the Swisschamp for £50, and the Spartan for £13.50.
Your best bet is probably an advertising knife with that date. My birth year is 1996, and Atlanta Olympics SAKs from that year are much easier to find than a Soldat. The throwing axe reminds me of the instance when a family friend tried to give me a Fairbairn Sykes, and my grandmother didn't let him.
or, some 2008 vintage wine?
I'm a bad Uncle! I don't normally bother very much with rug rats and presents So I need any kind of SAK with 2008 stamped on it, the lad needs something 'dangerous' from his Uncle Tony Any ideas? (probably not a throwing axe this year, his Mum doesn't have a very good opinion of me already )
I guess I was more just commenting that they can be had... I don't think I'm ready to let mine go. But I'm constantly on the hunt so if I come across another, hopefully more affordable one soon I will let you know... you could always have a new SAK engraved....
You might be right Z...I keep coming back to giving him an axe But I can almost hear 'Mum, Uncle Tony gave me an axe for my birthday, It's very sharp......It's for throwing'
