Alrighty,

After some hard use, I have two thoughts that concern me.

One: The tools get just a little sawdust in them and the tool has to be cleaned. Not a huge deal, but I work on antique furniture all day and dust gets into everything.  I mean everything! I find myself cleaning the Swisstool every three days, as opposed to weekly to every two weeks on my rebar I carried before. When it gets dirty, I break fingernails pulling tools out, until I clean it.

Two: The steel IS softer than LM's. The plier head and drivers show the most wear so far. My rebar still has no wear, and I carried it for months. This IS a big deal, because I am hard as nails on my tools. I am quite strong and tend to use my MT instead of a proper tool. The Swisstool has been a beautiful companion and lovely to use, but it has not held up as well as I would have liked. Old hardwood has been a foe to the Swiss steel.

Now, with that said, it is a delite to use when it is clean and oiled. No play has developed anywhere yet. Tools bend instead of snap, which makes it safer to use. A few weeks seems like a short time, but I tend to get about a year or so out of most MTs before sending them in or replacing them, so you know I am not easy on them. MTs get used 40-50 times a day on my side at work.
I have taken to the wood chisel as a regularly used tool, so I like that a lot. The wire stripper is also used a lot and a welcomed tool.

All in all, I will def keep the Swisstool in rotation, but I don't believe it will be THE goto tool for rough use. The Swiss MTs are too precise for my line of work. Just too much saw and sanding dust. Also, on a side note, my Vic Spirit would not last a week in my opinion doing the same jobs. It is just too puny compared to the SwissTool for rough use.
I do have power tools, but many times a day I find myself doing work I had not planned on outside, other sideof the store, or in the back of someone's vehicle. A HD MT is a must!

When the challenge is over, I will file the jaws back into shape and regrind the driver to like new as well as I can, and will take is a little easier on it in the future. But, I will keep using it a couple of more weeks as the goto and see if it keeps on keeping on!
I am not cutting down the tool overall. But, I am being honest about the SwissTool in regards to my job. It seems more suited to electricians, IT, home use, and medium - mid heavy duty tasks in cleaner environments.
The best thing about the SwissTool though:
No darned rust spots to steel wool away! I sweat bad in the summer when outside and the LMs spot up every few days. Not a single spot has appeared on the SwissTool!

If Vic would use a harder steel, use screws instead of rivets, and insert thin washers between the tools to help with dirt and dust removal; it would be perfect!

When Doug sent it to me, it had an almost in-perceivable amount of tooth wear, but it shows more wear than when I had started using it. I can microfile some of the wear away, but it is one of those things nobody wants to do. :multi:

Final note:
It is a fine tool for most occupations, just not a super dusty one with tons of rusty fasteners.

G-Man I love the honest review of your experiances with the Swisstool and Spirit.  I too am extreemly hard on my Swisstool but as you stated my environment is differant and I have not experianced the same problems.  I do however have exactly the same feelings on the Spirit.  I belive it to be over all a tool far superior in design and craftsmanship, just not TOUGH ENOUGH (heavy duty) for guys like us.  Sorry it took so long to respond but it was a very LONG day at work and I just now got to open my computer for the first time today/ yesterday
So here's day 28

Thank you, Douglas!

Aside from the things I mentioned, the SwissTool and Spirit are just plain beautiful! I love the pics you and other people have posted. :like:

The SwissTool has not even come close to breaking, so that is a big plus. I would put the Swiss blade on every tool I use if I could. Easy to sharpen and good edge retention! So there are plenty of outstanding things about the Vics!

The Spirit will adorn my off-work EDC, as it us just plain cool and good looking.

The Swiss made MTs are quite tough and have exceeded initial expectations. Just wish Vic had used a steel a bit harder. But, on the flip-side, the idea it is not going to shatter when I put force on it is a big deal. I've have had harder tools snap and leave my knuckles in ice several times.

But, the heavy-set lady has not belted out her final corus yet, so lots more to write about it in a couple of more weeks! :salute:

Day 29
Thanks Guys
I realy love an honest and well thaught out discussion, and the G-Man realy has it down.  He dosen't just talk he realy gives concrete examples in a positive and respectful manor.  His first post I read realy impressed me. https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,72622.0.html So much so I knew I had found a home for an extra Swisstool I had as a JUST IN CASE back up that deserved some real use.  I love hearing G-Mans experiances and hope to hear many more.
