The Great White Whale
on: July 08, 2017, 08:31:09 PM
So I may have found my great white whale. I have always wanted a Black Oxide Swisstool, either an Australian Army issue one or otherwise. Well I came across one of the new production burnished Swisstools for $185.00 brand new free shipping. However I am wrestling with whether or not $185.00 is too much to spend on one MT.

What do you folks think? Is this a good price or should I keep looking and waiting for another great white whalem

Question you have to ask yourself LW is; What happens when I catch my white whale? Am I content from that day forth to live alongside my trophy, or will another white whale appear on my horizon that I have to chase and harpoon.

Hard to say. I sold my BO Swisstool for $80 not to long ago so deals can be found. It's just the decision of you want to wait and possibly find one for cheaper as it may or may not happen. If you know you want one and want it now then buy it. As they say "buy once, cry once".

There's always another white whale. It never ends. I have been through that many, many times.

I had to make a similar decision last year, whether or not to buy the Swiss Bianco Carver. I think the colored version was way too expensive, while the standard silver edition was expensive but affordable. Since the tool was meant for use, not as a collector's item, I bought the silver one. Did I get a good price? I don't think so, but I really wanted it, and I'm quite happy now that I have it.

PS I don't think there are many white whales so that's not a problem for me.

I have a couple of white whales already since I started collecting. There have been chances to buy them, but they were too expensive. I am a patient man, it may take years but maybe one day I will be lucky and find them affordable somewhere.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and so isn't my collection  :D

What are your White Whales G-Fiddy? Put it out there and you suddenly massively increase your chances of finding them.

I am especially well placed  (in a U Boat) to spot white whales and would be delighted to help.  :tu:

Just some small 108mm whales  :D

108mm Walther, Fireman, NATO, TNI-AD and Brookstone. These rare birds whales would complete the 108mm collection  ::)

Oh wait.. there's also the SwissBianco 108mm variation, almost forgot that one :D

Good points all. In all actuality I think it's too much money. I'd much rather have an early Swisstool with the old style plier head and red lettering on the side. Maybe I'll look for that.

Are you talking about Swiss ShArK?

Could you please give me some information about "TNI-AD and Brookstone" models?
Thanks.

No SwissBianco had one with a clip point blade. The Shark isn't a SwissBianco model.

TNI-AD is an old Indonesian Army model.
Brookstone is probably made for the Brookstone retail store.
