Let's see, over the years/decades I've used awls to...
• Sew, stitch, repair things - different type of awl, yet is an awl
• Repair, sew, and fabricate (with) tarp
• Temporarily repaired oilskin
• Fashion leggings with awl w/ thread-loop during a bad winter storm. More of an under-garment to keep the knees & lower legs warm
• Repaired fire fighting boots during lunch bread, which saved me from getting
booted from the job
• Drilled holes in stuff
• Cleaned tubing and hoses out with for vehicle repairs
• Cut off thick rubber foot rests off motorcycle to replace with a newer set
• Cut off and removed glued on MTB grips
• Cut reinforced hoses with cause didn't want to get the main blade all funky smellin'
• Cleaned out fingernails, toenails, and removed a few ingrown toenails
• Pierced an ear, well, re-pierced an ear. Don't bet against a guy with a
sharp awl.
• Poked holes in stuff
• Cooked with over an open fire
• Fabricated thick plastics for various projects using an awl
• Stabbed things with an awl
• Used awl for a throwing knife - if the blade missed maybe the awl would get it!
• Defensive weapon, SAK awls, center out the fingers
• Widened holes
• Added extra holes in the belt
• Stabbed into siding to hang a coat & other things from - dunny survival technique
• Made 3D petroglyphs with
• Wood carving
• Used with electronic components
• Dismantling stuff with
Probably did a few other thing with an awl that probably should not be mentioned.
