Stoked Over My New Tourist
on: July 20, 2017, 07:42:58 PM
Besides the 58mm and 74mm Victorinox platform, my favorite size for EDC pocket carry has always been the 84mm.  I own a few Cadets and a couple Recruits.  I wanted something that would kick my Executive out of my pocket to either my keyring or out of my EDC rotation all together.  Whatever happens, either the Executive, a Rambler or a Classic will reside on my keyring, because of the scissors.

I recently picked up a Compact and a Climber, knowing they are of the larger 91mm platform.  I choose the Climber, because it was the thinnest 91mm available and the Climber because it had the 2nd small blade.  I'm one of the few who really want my EDC SAK to have two blades.  This is a huge reason the Executive has been my EDC since I can remember.  After having both of these for a few days, I'm reminded the 91mm is just too large for me.

After some research of the available 84mm Celidor Victorinox SAKS, the Tourist is the one that really stood out.  It has both blades and the added awe and corkscrew were nice features that I wasn't used to having, but knew would be a welcomed addition.  I knew I could take the eyeglass screwdriver and install that into the corkscrew.

What I wasn't expecting was that the Tourist had Plus scales allowing the insertion of the straight-pin.  How freaking cool is that?

I had really wanted black scales, but they're unavailable on the Tourist.  I was able to find black 84mm Plus scales on eBay, so they will get installed as soon as I get them.  They are coming from overseas, so it will take a few weeks.

Congrats!

It's a great feeling when you find that knife that's "just right."

Congrats
The Tourist is a great sak. Even if i'm partial to the small tinker's myself, i also carry a Tourist on my work backpack and rotate it with the small tinker. Really love them both  :D

I love the 91mm's but like you find them just too big for regular urban edc for most of my uses. The Small Tinker/Tourist with a classic on the keys for scissors and file is a killer combination.

Now if only Vic would listen to the user's and brought back the 84mm scissor's (small climber, salesman and golfer...) instead of just keep putting out ridiculously expensive limited edition's of standard sak's with different colors or fancy scales and boxes and calling them "new models"....  :twak:

The Evolution series really doesn't do much for me, they sure are great Sak's, but the Evo scales are chunky and i prefer Vic's scissors. I would gladly trade the whole Evo (85mm) line for an increase of models on the 84mm line, at least those mentioned above  :pok:

I agree.  We need more variety in the 84mm line, including an option for scissors.

Agreed on the need for 84mm scissors. I would do embarrassing things to get my hands on a Cadet X.

Congrats.  So this is the beauty you got the black scales for....  Its going to look sweet once they go on.  I'm partial to the Tinker 84mm but with this you get a few more tools, mini driver and plus scales  :tu:.  Cant beat that.

I also like the 84mm Recruit but mine is an economy, without T&T so it only sees home carry.

The Executive has such a unique tool set but I cannot kick my Manager off my keys.  I have carried my 84mm Tinker and Executive at the same time tho.  Its really hard sometimes to leave certain SAKs at home.

Do you pare it with anything to have scissors with you?

Very nice mate, and perfectly fitted as well    :like:

Even if i'm a die hard red cellidor lover myself, i can appreciate the beauty and elegance of the black scales, especially in the 84mm's  :D

Thanks.  I've always been partial to black when it comes to the Celidor scales.

I want one now :)  Looks great. If you were to add a saw to one of these would it make it a camper?

A truly lovely Sak.   :salute:
Love it almost as much as my beloved Small Tinker.

Yes, if only Vic added the 84mm saw and made a Small Camper or Hiker it would be lovely  :ahhh :D

I'm unsure of the Camper configuration.
