All Al's fault lol, my modded whittling knife .
on: September 21, 2017, 11:05:22 AM
Well yesterday I got gifted a whittling book and shrade 108otw stockman from Trad , so although I like my little Imperial schrade for smaller carving jobs I wanted to make a more beefier knife ,my RR lockback hunter I built from there kit was just sitting in a draw so Hey presto my new whittling knife,I'm sure I'll make a few more changes as I use it  :D

Who me?

 :D

Nice work, Paul  :tu: You might want to make it a slightly sharper point though. Slightly more Wharncliffe than Sheepsfoot if that makes sense  Other than that, it should work really well. A good size handle for grip strength, and a stout blade too. I think they call them chip carving knives  but not sure what the difference is supposed to be between whittling and chip carving

Let us know how it works, and be sure to share pics of the projects mate

Cheers Al, yeah it's not as pointy as I originally drew it out but I'll try it and change it as I go along  :salute:

Well my little bearded friend is getting there,I've only used my modded knife just to see how it will work out,so far I've done small and big jobs with it and it's working a treat but I might round off the bolster edges a bit  :tu:

It is a mirror, but it shows an ideal reflection, not the real thing.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Is it easier to use a straight or a curved blade? Something like the Eldris?

I used a Mora Classic and the Wenger Ranger. They work on long branches but not so much on flat surfaces. I have full sets of special blades but not much dexterity and experience.Wife is not happy with wood shavings on the floor and that's discouraging.

BTW,  I love your wizzard.

I'll probably use this knife and the Mora 2/0 and the congress coping blade on the next bit of whittling I do  :D the 2/0 is very comfy to use for carving and the congress coping blade is good for deep small cuts ,the lockback whittler I'm sure will evolve  ;)
