Tightening OG wave plier head rivet: Hammer and Punch?

I read a few posts about tightening the original wave using a hammer and a punch.  Is this still the recommended method for tightening the pliers? What size punch should I use?  The rivet looks like it is 5/16".  Just a regular punch or center punch or hollow punch?

Thanks for the info, that was what I had in mind.  I extracted the pics by viewing source from photobucket's site.
Did you notice the plier loosen up again over time and did it loosen faster after having been peened, each time, or does it stay tight for a good length of time?

Mine have stayed tight so far, I think on pair might have loosened slightly but that may because I didn't peen them hard enough.
