I bought a bag of unsalted peanuts as the girlfriend really likes to feed the squirrels and chipmunks that inhabit White Fish Island near the Sault Canal. Well today, we decided to find one of the many gazebos that the local Anishinaabe built on the island for rest. Little did we know the havoc that would ensue once we took out the peanuts and tossed a few on the ground. Like magic, 5 chipmunks showed up. We decided to feed them the whole bag of peanuts. You would swear the little fellows thought it was Christmas and then some. A few began to chase each other off of the peanut pile. This was a bit comical as they hopped after each other. I began to notice some strategy at play here. They would wait till the dominant chipmunk would stuff one peanut into his mouth before approaching the peanut pile themselves. I guess there was little to no danger of being nipped by the dominant. Regardless, they would each stuff one or two whole peanuts into their cheek pouch and then run off to their stash and hurry back. I didn't have a good camera, relying on my LG G5. A cell phone is no action camera. I sure wished I had something that could capture all the furry. Here are some of the better shots.



















All in all, a pleasant way to spend an hour. Next time, I hope to be more prepared with a better camera.

They are definitely greedy little fellows. Once the whole bag of peanuts disappeared, a few of them literally started to climb my pant legs for a closer look to see if I was dishonest and trying to hide some food from them.
