So is the Swisstool with a +/-20.5mm or 0.82in. wide head the original? Mine fits that specification.

So mine is a '98. Did that design really only last until '99?

If '98 is original, what is '97? Is there enough change to count them as different models?

This is MTO ;) of course there is enough difference to tell us what year it is made  :like: I wouldn't look at it as a different model as much as it is a good way to be able to put a closer date on how old a tool in question is

From what I can tell, the  98 & 97 plier heads seem cosmetically different, but are dimensionally similar from the photos. So both must be 'original' spec. The 99' looks close, but the large tooth sections looks different on it.
The smaller plier head seems strong enough however.

Now, if only someone would take a caliper to their large collection and get us some measurements.  :dd:

Another work day. This side is Swisstool, kershaw, pocket level, cell phone holder and Larry light with stanley 12' tape.
Maglite, keys, SAK, box cutter and wallet on other side for balance. I also wear suspenders,  so I don't feel the weight. I must be the only 30yo guy wearing suspenders for work. Haha  :D

Cheers

The differant plier head designs are an indication of the production years of any specific tool but the model is actualy determined by the tool package. And yes there is enough differance in the short limited run in 97 to the full production of 98 on to make a distinction between them, but again the model is actualy determined by the tool package.  Ie. Early 98s had a round lanyard hole while later ones (I belive 99 on) incorperated an elongated design to be able to use the corkscrew attachment etc...

Ponch,
that's an 02

Birdseed with cayenne pepper to dissuade squirrels.

Squirrels beat your feeder?  I have two of this model feeder and one at my moms. Squirrels only get the seeds dropped by the birds feeding.

Plus mom tried the cayenne pepper and it did not stop her pests.

Ponch,
that's an 02

It actually looks bigger to me than an 02 and the sides look more angular  The sides of the 02 in the pic by Dunc look like they are more straight ??? I bought this one around 2009 or so, maybe it is an in between model that they were heading to the 05 model  That or I am just looking at it at the wrong angle

No, these "Squirrel Buster Plus" feeders are new, and have defeated the squirrels.  The cayenne pepper on the seed is left over from my last "squirrel proof" feeder which kept the squirrels well fed.  Prior to that, I humanely trapped the squirrels and relocated them, but that is a losing battle as new ones will migrate to fill the void.

i am starting to wonder if the increased bulk of the pliar hed may be due to a ghange in the metalurgy of the steal in the newer pliars.  G-Man has stated in an earlier post that he has found the steal to be softer than say Leatherman but apreciates that it is not as brittle.  Could the increased bulk be to combat the more brittle nature of harder steel?  After reading another post on Vic files changing to a harder metal, I myself have noticed that the newer files seem to be more agressive and harder than on earlier models.  It is also almost unheard of to increase the materials in a product as it increases cost.  Another factor against such an increese is the physical weight and bulk of the tool (one of the biggest turn offs for so many) .  I also have had a small amount of pitting (NOT rust, pitting) develope on the rounded sides on my pliar heads, another possible side affect of harder metal.  So is Vic using a harder metal for their pliar heads?  This would account for the changes in my openion.
Any body else have any thoughts or first hand info?

U missed, lol.
Is the square a purposely designed feature or just a pleasant happenstance? I wasn't sure anybody else even noticed its existence.
Anyway... it is Day THREE and I'm posting my first ever MT stuck in a stump pics!

Does anybody want to try to guess the type of tree?
