What about a review GAW? Choose a really good prize for incentive to encourage people to work hard on this.

Each contestant has to pick a tool/flashlight/bag/piece of gear that they own out of the ones that have not been reviewed on the main site and submit a properly formatted review of that tool to be posted on the main site. Then we vote on the best review, or a random one is drawn for the prize. That way we get a GAW that will help the site too.

The review GAW is how I won my Skeletool on here back in 08 :salute:

We had to go by a certain format and do a tool that didn't already have a review in the main site  Then I can't remember how we decided the winner  Maybe a pole

dks get on that will you :pok: :D

I have also thought a multi level GAW where we have different rounds  First round make a pic with a MT and some other object and have your name on a running list.  Pick 1 person at random and they get put on a separate list then we start another round where we do this again and maybe have 3-5 round so this and then pick one of the people on the winners list to win the prize

Maybe have a really good prize for this and although the game would go on for several days it might be fun :tu:

Don't go randomizing lists, or using online RNGs. Get some Gamer's Dice, or be more creative like Grant has been in the past with the balloons or rubber ducklings.
When I went back to college we did testing on RNGs online, on TI-84's, and other electronic methods. Those actually had quite a few numbers showing up more refquently that other numbers - even when widening the amount of numbers to be used. Scripting, aka programming, is not as random as you would think. One fella brought in Gamer's Dice, and the numbers were far more varied than any other electronic/internet method, and there's various dice to be used as multipliers or other digits.

Preferred Grant's ducklings & balloons method better. Grant has better ideas on picking, and he's more fair dinkum in the process - and fun to read/view photos. :D

Gave away a Fitbit Charge to some facebook friends. Added numbers to their names; wrote those on cards. Filled bathtub with water and gently placed each on in the water. Took photos every hour or so, and posted. Oddly the one I thought for sure was going to go under soon, as it had water creeping up on all edges, won. Course this took a few hours

The idea I used a while back was inspired by Grant, although Corowyn actually proved to be the ace in the hole with his skills. :ahhh Sneaksies! :ahhh

I've got a ten sided die that can be used to roll any number between 0 and 99. First roll decides the "tens" unit(0's,10's,20's, etc) and second roll decides the "ones" unit(0,1,2,3,4,5,etc) :)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

  Photo themed events are good.

Showing how to use a multitool or one piece in peculiar ways is one of my favorites. Like using the SAK hoo, or can opener for other tasks than what they were deigned for, and maybe everyone gets to vote on the most ingenious used one from a generated list after all entrants had been entered.

Some of the better contests had an award for both the winner & the loser, or the first & the last. Even had won once on an honorable mention that really wasn't much of anything but was a fun off-the-wall item.

Make paper boats with numbers for entrants on them. Put in bread crumbs, and sent them across the pond. The last one standing, or the last one to go asunder would win. Might need binos though.

What I have enjoyed so far is the one where some of us lost sleep trying to be the one to post last or hit the mysterious number. That was crazy and fun!

Not sure if I want a repeat tho, depends on the prize I guess

But I do like the winner being selected totally randomly as it levels the playing field. But put a minimum number of posts first please

Giveaways like Thread Killer only happen once a year. And it's more for bagging rights than the prize.

The battleship game is always popular but takes a lot of your time to administer.

Chuck a load of screws, bolts, nuts etc in a big jar and guess how many is in it.  Closest wins the gaw.

Next time you cut a tree up take a pic of the log pile and count them when you move them. Same rules as above.

Tent peg pile. I'm sorting out my camping gear at the mo, I'll chuck every tent peg I can find into a pile and photo them, then count them.
I'll send you the results to use in a draw with the same rules as above.

Photo challenge, post a pic of a face/word/number made up with mulits, saks or knives. Draw a winner with random.org

I'll think of more...

Battleships is another once a year gaw. Thanks for your pegs pic. I also took pics of the firewood.

A Find Waldo kind of game.

Large pic with a tool somewhere hidden.

The first to locate it (by a battleship grid) and name the tool, wins that exact tool.

Yeah I've done this before and might do it again.

Specific competitions are a lot less inclusive than the 'pick a number', but maybe to spice up the GAW, posting a pic of something that most people own, along with picking the number, makes it a bit different.

Copy that.

Nice! I had no clue it had been done before

It's a good idea but sadly it doesn't work. Very few people will enter anything requiring more than minimal effort.
