Question about Charge TTi
on: October 20, 2008, 07:21:28 AM
Hello, since I'm a multitool fan since probably 20 yrs ago, I 've been lurking around this great forum for a while. This is my 1st post though.

I have several Leathermans, and am planning on buying a Charge TTi. I  want the one that comes in the cardboard box, with a leather sheath. However, there seems to be 2 current part numbers for this: 830682 and 830688. Anyone know the difference? Both come with a leather sheath.

Thanks in advance.

Could it be one comes with a bit kit and the other doesn't?

A quick google tells me that part 830688 refers to something about "Raised Pad", which is a new one on me.

I'll have a proper look later and see if I can see what that means.

I used to come here a lot.

Thanks. Yes, that's what I noticed too, but could not figure out what it meant.

Thanks. Yes, that's what I noticed too, but could not figure out what it meant.

I'm interested to find out myself, but my company blocks any web pages that have knives on them as "weapons"  ::)

First time I've seen the term "Raised Pad" and it's got me curious....

Btw, the Charge TTi is a fine, fine choice. To my mind, it's the best MT ever conceived, and I never go anywhere without it!

I used to come here a lot.

So what do they mean by "raised pad" eleatherman?

Plenty of hits on 830688, but no detail that I can find (yet), although I notice that it's listed everywhere as "New Charge TTi Raised Pad w/Leather Sheath"
I used to come here a lot.

Could it have something to do with this  ???

Well, that thought did cross my mind, but "raised pad" seems like a strange name for it?

Might well be right though.

Calling Kwakster, Kwakster to the thread please!

Don't think so. From what I was told, the 830688 is an older number than the 830682.  Still wondering what raised pad means. I've written to Leatherman cust serv, but haven't heard from them yet. ???

I got a reply from Leatherman customer service (great customer service, btw).

The raised pad is just a pad on the handles for laser marking.  From Leatherman customer service:

Yes the raised pads are used for custom engraving. The standard handles don’t accommodate so we made this handle for that reason.

Thanks for reading!
