Adding an adjustable spanner (aka adjustable wrench) to a Leatherman Rev

I had been thinking about trying to add an adjustable spanner to my Wave but didn't want to risk ruining it.  Leatherman came out with the relatively cheap Rev lately, so finally had a crack at it:

 - Removed package opener, file and can opener.
 - Shifted both screwdivers across. I will use them more than the other tools.
 - Bought a 6" Bahco adjustable spanner, removed the rubber grip and cut to length.
 - Drilled the spanner and ground the shoulders.
 - Trimmed off a bit of the spring plate from the scales to match the step in the spanner handle.
 - Then cut down the handle to fit snugly against the pliers.
 - Added a few little washers to pack the bolt and you now have a Revahco!

I was planning to put a small bolt through the scale and into the spanner handle, but after drilling the scale (two broken bits) and the handle I managed to snap the thread cutting tap off inside the handle. Maybe I'll have another  attempt one day...
However it doesn't actually need the extra bolt as the end of the spanner handle is firmly restrained by the scales and the pliers.

Nice work.  I'm curious.  What problem were you trying to solve with this mod?  Do you do something this tool solves or was this purely an academic pursuit?

I'm planning to carry this instead of the Wave at the next factory we commission.  I'm an engineer so don't usually need a full toolbox, but do use screwdrivers and smaller spanners a fair bit, with regular use of pliers and a knife too.  The Revahco doesn't have the massive range of screwdriver bits I have for the Wave, but I often carry a multi-bit screwdriver anyway.

Of course I could have just chucked a 6" crescent in my pocket, but like any multitooler I want to jam as much as practical into a single tool!

Bahco, answered my next question.  Good job!

Nice mod, a wrench is hard to replace with a multitool. I'm thinking that the low tool count on the Rev might actually be a good thing here since it means there are less tools lost to fit the wrench...

What type of factory?  What does your company manufacture?  :pok:

Cool

I am frustrated that there are not better adjustable wrench multi tools out there.

how does it ride in your pocket???    or do you use a belt sheath?

It's a bit large for a jeans pocket. I normally carry my Wave in a sheath so I'm planning to make one to fit this thing.

So lets total this up for tool count.

Pliers w/ wire cutter.
Cresent wrench
P1/P2 phillips driver
Straight driver
Knife

BRILLIANT!

The package opener is meh tool, and the file they use in this certainly subpar. This makes the most mediocre Leatherman into something with some serious potential. Let us know how it holds up in real world use.

And again I'm going to say, Tim! Tim Leatherman! See what this guy did. See what your company came up with your son in your chair? Take it back, man, take it back.
