deluxe tinker vs. tradesman
on: August 08, 2017, 03:29:52 PM
I was comparing my new deluxe tinker with my old tradesman, and was trying to decide on which was the better knife.  I like the variable plier size of the Wenger, as well as it being a little more pocket friendly, but I like the feel of the Vic in your hand, as well as the better cutting scissors. Which do you guys prefer?

I have both. I carried the Tradesman for years, but retired it when I did (years ago). Now carry a Deluxe Tinker. Like it better - more heft in the hand although the adjustable pliers on the Tradesman were better IMHO. Carried both in a belt pouch.

Tradesman for me.  Similar capability in a more manageable package.  It just feels better in the pocket.  (Victorinox pliers are stronger and more precise though, but I like the blade shapes and scissors better on the Wenger.)

Haven't held either yet but based on the pics, I prefer how the Vic's pliers look over the Wenger.

I'm still half and half, Since my first SAK was a Wenger, I'll always be a Wenger lover, and the tradesman is no exception. However, I do like the feel of the DT just a little more as far as scissors and pliers go.

I like the compact size of the Wenger Tradesman, however I prefer the pliers, scissors, can opener and awl on the Deluxe Tinker.

The Wenger Tradesman is my favorite Wenger.( I have five of them. Our local Kmart closed them out a few years ago for $20.00 each, so I bought all they had left).

The Tradesman is a great EDC for those who prefer something  compact in size.

Coming from someone who grabs a Handyman when I don't need the extra bulk of a Fieldmaster, both depending on the situation. However, I say Deluxe Tinker, as the nail file really can't fix anything other than a fingernail, the pen blade is great for all kinds of small/fine cutting tasks.
