Lanyards, zipper pulls, fire starters. What if anything do you like on your SAK?

I got some mini Bic lighters  :D I used to EDC a little blue one in my pocket all the time, useful for daily life and the occasional smoker who needs a light. Plus if it runs out of butane you can still take the metal flame guard off and use it to throw sparks for survivaly stuff. Plus MacGyver always carried strike anywhere matches and it was pretry cool.

Just switched to these official Victorinox lanyards. No functional difference with the generic ones I used to use

When I made my little pocket sheath I felt the same.  After carrying it and using it now I can see where some improvements can be made.  When I acquire more leather I'll make some changes but mine is still working great as I'm sure yours is.

:tu: yeah same as me ,it's functioning well and seems pretty tough ,I added the clip as wanted it clipped to my pocket ,that parts a bit crued so will defantly improve on that  :tu: leather though isn't cheap , but I've enough left to make one more so once I've picked up a few more tools and a better clip I'll make another one  :salute:

Recently I've added Paratinder lanyard to my Soldier.  This stuff is great even when I soaked it in water I was able to light it with a ferro toggle after patting it dry on my shirt. This stuff with a ferro toggle adds the extra ability of a emergency fire starter to my SAK.

Didn't knew about that type of paracord. Pretty cool! Although I suppose even the regular one could light up pretty well...

You probably could light regular paracord with with a good ferro rod but this stuff catches a spark like dry grass on a 100 degree day but burned slow like a candle. Even wet with it well catch a spark its just harder.

  • Between this & that.
I love the idea of lanyards and pocket clips and such and threads like this always get me keened up to make or buy them. :salute: I once had one on a Swisschamp that attached to a belt loop.

Then I remember how much they can get in the way when I'm using tools at the keyring end, i.e. they're something that needs to be held flat along the length of the knife, if not removed entirely. I got tired of the one on my SC and the knife became bag carry only.

I even have half a mind to remove the keyrings on my most used SAKs. I have a couple without keyrings (in 91mm and 93mm) and the improvement in comfort is remarkable compared to those with them. But you can't put them back on, just in case - and much of a SAK is about "just in case"! :-\ I actually tried folding the one on my SC into the body and was disappointed that it didn't.

P7 from Tec makes the knife almost unnoticed (felt) when dangling.

I'm an old squid, so I usually make my own.  But used a Swiss Army Rescue Tool lanyard on my Vic Evo, and Pioneer alox.
