Are all pre 1951 soldiers nail breakers?

Are all the old soldiers made before 1951 nailbreakers?
I have a 48 wenger and while it has great snap, the tools are almost impossible to open because of the strong back springs. When looking on ebay sellers often say that the tools are real nail breakers.
Are they all like that or is it just that the nailbreakers live longer because they dont get used?

My '42 Elsener's screwdriver caused a rather painful break to my thumbnail:  And the screwdriver and can opener are still quite tough to get out, despite carrying it off and on for a couple months. The original owner(s) (it's not a "P" and it had to get to the US somehow) had used it quite hard, and I use it like normal, babying it slightly. I'm sure there are those that don't have much snap, due to tangs getting rounded off from neglect and lack of oiling.

In the 40s men were tougher. Lol

I've got a few here to be restored and I can't even open some of them. I am hoping after disassemble cleaning and oiling they will function again.  If not I can gently reduce the pivot hump length from pivot hole.  That would cause the spring to be flexed less at max flex.

Sheesh, I thought my '54 was bad... it's really only the can opener that is dangerous on mine.

I think there is some truth to that.
