:iagree: That Topo looks fantastic! And I do like the idea of being able to swap the ferro rod and sharpener for other gear.

Thanks fellas. I didn't really have a use for the sharpener or ferro rod since I have a stone and many full size ferro rods so swapping these out was a no brainer for me. I love the topo on the blade but I hate the combo edge. Ill give it a chance for a while but would much prefer a plain edge

I understand your views!
It is interesting that this tool originated from a community of active outdoor enthusiasts, the marketing of this tool is a survival or emergency tool.

Whistle to draw attention (worthless on the 3 I own),  Ferro rod to enable the production of a fire, by throwing a spark.  Assuming the person knows how to use let alone build a fire and gather the correct tender to be set ablaze.

This Green TOPO model, with the relief pattern on the blade is decoration only.  This model will likely become the first item lost in the wild without a BRIGHT COLOR lanyard attached.

Mine was acquired because it is neat and displays well.

It funny, to me, a couple, that are weekend hikers, while visiting asked about this addition to my display case.

When I outlined the tools features, she laughed!  To make fire I use my BIC, and her husband chimed in and “then why do I always make our fires or light our stove, I did not know you even carried a BIC!”

Then they both asked about the lines on the blade.  Had to explain on a topography map it denotes elevation!  ???? Was the look.   “We use our phones!”

I  do believe the SIGNAL is offered to the inexperienced wannabe, outdoor adventurer as a security blanket.   Marketing hype.

That is my 2 cents!

I have 3, I do find the handles provide me good control of the pliers.  The Agua and Coyote are part of my daily use bags,  and TOPO GREEN is on display.

Today the pliers see most action assisting me by retrieving credit card from gas pump reader if the read head is adjusted tightly.  My  nerves in my fingers are worn out.

Knowledge and experience are yet our best survival tools.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

That's funny Gordon!   I like using strikers but my Bic is never very far!!   I'll say this for a map: you never lose signal or have a dead battery, but GPS is sure nice!!

You're spot on my friend.  I actually like this tool because it's so handy.

I had the same experience with the whistle on my (now Barry's) Signal. All it did was annoy my dog.

Thanks Dan!  I ordered those from Leatherman after I put the fire striker to use.  I thought having backups wouldn't be a bad idea.
