58mm; What's recommended?
on: August 17, 2017, 07:28:13 AM
I want to get a bunch.  What does everyone recommend?  Colors? Models? Rare? Limited Editions?

I know a guy who knows a guy with a few thousand of them...   :D

Thanks in advance  :salute:

I guess I should have clarified.

Already have several models, I think the Manager is my fav for use/carry.   Anyone use one with a light?

Any cool colors/designs that are hard to find I should watch out for?

Only have an alox classic... is it just the Minichamp that comes in alox too?

Really?  I thought that was just a mod.  I would LOVE to find an alox rambler.

The alox Vagabond is on my keychain for almost two years now and I like it a lot. It has, at least for me, a very useful toolset.

Even though it's awlmost awlways only my secondary knife, I use it almost daily.

The alox Rambler was available (in silver with silver shield, IIRC) from some Greek stores for much less than at Swiss Bianco.

There was a range of alox Classics available in South Africa too - black, red, green, orange and blue.

Oooh, and the Danish alox Classics for the goodstuffshop (or something like that) - green, black and blue, all with red shields.

I recommend this one with all my heart, my urban EDC. Posted before but what a heck...

Personally I think the Rambler/Manager is the pinnacle of the 58mm line. If you want more function head over to the 65s for a PTC/Evo88

Until recently, I carried a Midnite Manager. It's a Rambler + light + pen. I only trade it for the Leatherman Style PS because I always have a light and at least a pen with me and I gained the pliers.

For me, Classic SD, Ramber, and MiniChamp, plus the Companion. I primarily focus on advertising 58mms with various subjects, typically heavy equipment, emergency vehicles/services, and defense as well as automotive.

As far as special runs/editions; there was the Pharmacy and Doctor's knives made for the pharmaceutical industry. I've had my eye on the 1996 Atlanta Olympics series, because they're birth year knives for me, and far cheaper than a Soldat.

Thanks for all the input. I should be posting some pics of the new stuff soon.  By the way I usually edc see a manager and every once in awhile  minichamp or classic sd or Swiss lite.

reminds me I need a midnight manager and that PTC is looking better everyday.

Here's a weird one. Not sure I would recommend it though ;)

The Victorinox Secure with fingerprint reader built into the USB flash drive. The fingerprint reader was pretty cool and worked well but moving data at USB 1 speeds was a little torturous.

More about it here.

Rambler. Only edges out the Classic because I once used the cap lifter on a Rambler.

I used to carry a SwissBit. Removed the 64Mb and put a 16Gb instead. Pretty good knife. Stopped carrying it because I don't always need a flash drive and reduced the size of my EDC SAK in half with the Midnite Manager (traded the flash drive for a magnetic Phillips driver with bottle opener).

Same here. After carrying a Classic for years, once I got a Rambler, the Classics went into 1st Aid Kits and were given away except a few kept for parts. And once I got a Manager, all the Ramblers became Managers with a simple scale change.
