The Surge is designed and built to a better design and higher strength and quality than the Wingman.  The Wingman is aimed at the "budget but not rubbish" mt buyer, the Surge is aimed for someone who uses (or may want to use) their mt considerably harder (and is therefore prepared to pay more).

It's one hell of a hunk of metal that can do a lot more than quite a few other tools out there

You're pulling our leg, right?

Just look at them. Based on mass alone, the Surge is literally almost twice the tool of the Wingman, with higher fit and finish and 50% more functionality.

Or did you send in a Surge under warranty and get a Wingman back? In which case I say you should be... miffed.

Or maybe you mean to ask why the price points on the Wingman and the Sidekick differ. In which case, honestly, that's a question for the ages.

The Wingman while a good tool has less features than the Surge.  The Wingman as Greg posted was meant to be a budget option.  The Surge has more design elements like the Blade Exchanger, bit holder, and 154CM replaceable cutter on the plier.  The Surge was also redesigned.  The Surge takes nothing away from the Wingman IMO just increases functionality by having more implements and being larger/tougher. 

Holding both you would feel quite a difference in what these two tools were designed for, work wise.

Primarily because the Surge is a high end tool, while the Wingman/Sidekick/Rev family is priced to compete with the Chinese competition, especially the Gerber Suspension and Ganzo-produced products. It's kinda like comparing the Tata Nano to a Bugatti.

Its all about application.  What will you use if for and how will you carry it?  The Surge is a large tool and weights more than most MTs.  In its application of a heavier more feature rich tool it works great.

Is it bigger than a Rebar AND a SAK? No, but the combination is one I like more. 

It is heavy and kinda bulky. I don't like my Surge on my belt. On a chest rig or in my vest pocket, sure. But when I have a bunch of stuff and need to slim down, I will swap the combo of my Rebar and Compact and several other tools for it.
