Difference in key rings:
on: August 22, 2017, 05:45:16 AM
I was admiring my knives and noticed that my 2 campers have different key rings.  Is this typical, maybe one is much older than the other?  Does anyone have any insight on this?

It's possible I messed up and put a 74mm or Wenger keyring on there

Haha,

I had to take them out again and look.  The one that I received from you looks to be correct :) the one I had had a thin ring hole like something a recruit would have.

I also noticed that some corkscrews are different. Some have a line going along the spiral and some do not.  Does anyone know what is the history behind that? Thanks

You'll find the Fluted Corkscrew on the regular Victorinox Line up to '91 then they became regular.

There was no fluted corkscrew on the economy lines starting in the 70's methinks

Their corkscrews were (or are, still?) produced in France; I believe that's the only tool on the actual knife not made in Switzerland, though I do not have any documentation proving the corkscrew is the only exception.

Yes, the only tool that is not made by Victorinox is the corkscrew. According to a Victorinox Customer Service Representative in correspondence, as of 2012, it had been been purchased from a French supplier as a semi-finished part for decades .

Although I as well have heard something about Japan...
