84-mm Model Relationships diagram
on: August 23, 2017, 12:59:01 PM
Hi All,

Few years ago I've created a graphical representation of relations between 91-mm models of Victorinox knives.
The result of my work is available here on forum and on my personal blog.

Since nobody decided to do the same for the 84-mm family, I did it by myself again :)
So, I'm glad to present you diagram, which might be helpfull for newbies and gurus of SAKs. As previous one, this diagram displays all 84-mm models (only production run, no customs / special runs) and relations between them in context of adding / replacing tools.

I'll quote myself:
Quote
Anyway, I think will be better to review this diagram than trying understand me

If I made some mistakes or missed something - please let me know, will try to fix it together.

Regards,
Alex (aka LeaF)

P.S. Original (uncompressed) image in bigger resolution is available in my blog

These are all minor corrections:

From Waiter to Apprentice, it's "- Corkscrew", you got "+ Corkscrew".

From Bantam to My First, it's "+ Round tip" only.

You spelt Excelsior wrong.

Great work, man!

Another note: You start with 2 base models: Waiter and Excelsior. Shouldn't you start with the models with less tools? 2230 and Sentry? If starting with Waiter and Excelsior, maybe have the arrows go from Waiter to all the other derived models.

Leaf.....very, very nice.......good on you. :tu:

There is also a small Mountaineer that you could include, basically a small Grand Prix with a corkscrew instead of a Phillips.

Fixed!

I've used the same scheme "Plain blade <-> Rounded blade" in previous scheme also. Leave as is...
You spelt Excelsior wrong.

Fixed!

Need to think about this idea deeply.

There is also a small Mountaineer that you could include, basically a small Grand Prix with a corkscrew instead of a Phillips.

All fixes were done with file in my blog, I cannot edit first message in this thread already :(

I've never seen the 84s with files, I don't think they are at the SAKWiki.

Why am I hoping there was a run of Ranger Smalls that were made. Or Mini Mastercraftsman.

No small Rangers that I know of, but they did make the small Master Craftsman, I carry one every day.  I think they were driven by Hoffritz, it seems a large percentage of the small MCs are Hoffritz marked.

If you look under 5 layers in the 84mm part of SAKwiki rather than by name you will find the 84mm Master Craftsman.

They don't seem to be very common, that's for sure.  I found a small MC that was essentially in pieces but didn't buy it (still kicking myself).  Even in pieces it still went for almost $50 if I recall correctly.  But the file would be a nice addition to your Mega84.

Leaf.....thought of another 84mm you should include......the Woodsman.  Similar to the small Huntsman but no long nal file on the back and the pivot for both the scissors and woodsaw at the same end.  Kind of like a modern Huntsman.   :salute:

As you can see on diagram, I've marked some models with a special shape, which means that knife was available with and withouy LNF. Huntsman Small is a one from such knives.
Regarding position of scissors - it's a common practice for all (84- and 91-mm) knives: if it has LNF, scissors are placed on the same axis as main blade; if no - on the opposite ones.

Oops! Sorry, man! Only saw your question today...

No, I don't believe I have. These deserve a place in SAKWiki. Or, at least, to be made a sticky in the Swiss Army Knigths Forum. Great work!
