Taxi dad was showing me his Bahco SB-2449  knife at the meet. At 4mm thick, the blade looks like it can put up with some fair abuse. Maybe even as much abuse as Pablo O’Brien subjects his poor SAKs to. We’ll see………….

The handle is well proportioned and comfortable. The sheath has a positive hold and features a neat belt clip that ensures it won’t slip off by mistake.

Taxidad and I were wondering how long the tang was. We decided to find out over at the camp’s state of the art ‘Testing Arena’.

Once we had observed and fulfilled the Safety regime at the Test Arena (No naked flames, no naked Taxidad or Magentus,) and all PPE was in place, we commenced testing. This knife was going to be exposed to the rigours of life at the UK meet. Would it be able to withstand the weekend?

A suitable log was found. Taxidad hammered the Bahco into the log using Sparky’s replica of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, faithfully and painstakingly crafted in finest skipped wood.

Once the Bahco had been bashed into the log as far as it would go, Taxidad proceeded with the true test. He attempted to batten the log using the fully inserted Bahco – a test that, if successful, would elevate the humble Swedish tool to the lofty heights of legend and mythology. If unsuccessful, the Bahco would be consigned to Sparky’s parts bin.

Undeterred and embodying the spirit of Old Blighty, Taxidad battened the remnant of the blade out of the log using one of Tony’s enormous collection of axes (one for every brain cell so I heard).

and then continued by battening open the Bahco handle to reveal the secrets of the tang.

Usually the radius when the tang meets the blade fares better than 90° angles, but guess this was just too much. Nice test
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

  • Yoo-hoo, big summer blowout!
A SAK might stand up to more. Maybe I'll go mess around now.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

You know what I think? I think you did this test because this knife costs next to nothing. In this regard, the knife is a real winner.

I have two similar and I noticed in the local store I bought them from that they have almost the same by two other brands (one was Stanley) but not Bahco anymore.

 :D

When I saw the broken blade at the meet, I half expected to see a flaw in the materials for it to have broken there, and was surprised to see it was such a clean break. Now that I've seen the pics of the rest of the brutality, it's clear that it didn't have the option to break anywhere else.  :P Did Michael give it much welly before it went? Just wondering how much a fight it put up....

So, the knife didn't stand a chance, but that was the intention.

I would have liked to see the batoning  part from the end of the wood. The traditional method to see the the knife's usefulness.

Yeah, I know, do it to my own knife.

BTW - good photos

I did give it a fair clomp
A little upset we managed to break it so quickly, think I've watched too many destruction tests on YouTube .would have been nice to do more experiments.
That said nobody in there right mind (🤔) would treat a knife like that and not expect it to fail. As a cheep (sub 15 quid) work tool I would definitely recommend one. I'll be getting another that's for sure.

I've tried to upload my photos of the weekend (general madness) but can't seem to do it from an iPad   >:( MTO doesn't work well on here. One of the main reasons I've stopped commenting.
I heard that collective sigh of relief
