Victorinox 91mm knife and pouch sizes
on: August 24, 2017, 11:15:22 AM
While trying to untangle which standard and modded knifes would fit which pouches I ended up putting this together based on the information in catalogues, Wiki, etc.  Probably more info than we'll ever need, but now it's ready it might help someone  :-[. It's imperfect I think, since the same tool probably ought to always add the same thickness, but that is the best that I could take from the Wiki info, and I think it still gives handy info when considering how hefty a modded knife could be with non-standard layers.

Victorinox broadly describe the "main" pouches as 1-4 layer or 5-8 (sometimes 7) layer.  With the Wiki measurements overlaid to their "this knife fits this pouch" recommendations a couple of possible anomalies for thicker variant 4, 5 and 6 layer knives are potentially corrected, such as the Deluxe Tinker probably being more comfortable in the 5+ pouches and the thicker Cyber knives being very similar to the SwissChamp so may need a 8-layer pouch.

To me, the 4.052X.32 pouches with side space for Maglite plus sharpening stone (or other handy bits...) look very useful for slightly more preparedness, and the 4.056X.03 with compass slot and one Maglite / stone space.  The rest are more of a fashion choice  ::)  :D.

While putting this together I saw some interesting other variants in c.2008 catalogues such as camo pouches.  I haven't included those since they look to be hard to obtain, and information is scarce.

EDIT: Fixed a couple of errors / omissions.

That's very interesting!  :tu:
I find that until I get my Skinth, I'm keeping some EDC items in my 4.0523.3 F pouch, instead of my EDC SAK, which is a bit too thick to fit.  :-[
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Very good work!
  :tu:

May I make a few sugestions? (yes I may, you can use them or not)  :D :D

The colour-code for 5 and 7 layers is almost the same. Maybe use another colour for one of them (pink)?

Instead of having the pouch codes in the middle of an arrow, showing the range of knives they can carry, why not use rectangular boxes? It might be easier to understand where one ends and another begins.

When you show the difference between SAKs, you wrote the tools added and the size. Why not just show the tools? You can figure out the tool size from the difference between the two knives and the chart is less cluttered, easier to read.

Agreed, changed.

Instead of having the pouch codes in the middle of an arrow, showing the range of knives they can carry, why not use rectangular boxes? It might be easier to understand where one ends and another begins.

A bit more wok that I now have time for before the modify windows closes, and I still have a preference for the arrows  :D.

When you show the difference between SAKs, you wrote the tools added and the size. Why not just show the tools? You can figure out the tool size from the difference between the two knives and the chart is less cluttered, easier to read.

Those differences were the main reason I used the diagram in the first place, to help me understand how thick a saw (for example) layer was.  Hence I'll leave them in as well, although I agree it is redundant information overall.

Incredible work, Little Tinker! This will be so useful for modding. Thanks for your efforts.

Perhaps this could be stickied here or on The Mod Squad somehow...?
