Surprise Birthday Weekend (pic heavy)
on: November 05, 2017, 06:13:22 PM
Friday was my birthday.  And, lucky me, I just so happened to have the day off from work.  Well Thursday after work my lovely wife informed me that she had plan a surprise weekend get away for us and our daughter to celebrate my birthday.  But she wouldn't tell me where we going. This type of surprise was a first for me and could barely sleep Thursday night.

Friday we loaded up the car and started driving.  I grabbed these for the road.

We headed west and the scenery eventually started to change as we got into the Blue Ridge.

After a couple hours and some nerve wracking mountain roads we ended up here.

A beautiful little mountain cabin.

With some stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley.

Had a nice dinner and enjoyed some birthday apple pie (my favorite)

The next morning I was the first one up and enjoyed one the most peaceful cups of coffee I've had in a long time.

Then cooked up a nice breakfast for us.

My daughter and I grabbed our carries for a short hike a little ways up the mountain road.

It rained the rest of the day but we laid low and enjoyed the chance to decompress.

Oh and here's a gratuitous pack pic.  This is the first time really using this.  Didn't hike with it yet but seems like it would do ok.  Plenty of room, especially with bread bag attached, and pretty comfy too.

Anyway thanks for reading.  I had such a wonderful time I just wanted to share with you fine folks.

I am indeed spoilt.  Not sure on the sub.  It burrowed itself into the mountain and disappeared  27 minutes after that pic was taken.  Weird...

What an amazing wife.  Cudos to her for putting this together for you.  I really liked the picture of father and daughter carry items.  That was wonderful.

The scenery is breathtaking.  I can almost imagine that cup of coffee myself.  I can also imagine how wonderful it must have been to wake up early and see your beautiful family sleeping after celebrating you.  You sir are living the life.  Happy belated birthday to you and  to many many more.

Thank you for sharing this occasion with us.

Happy Birthday, Clown!

Some of the best words ever spoken: "We headed west and..."

The pics and description conjure up John Denver's melody.

What is better than a wife who understands that it really is the simple things in life that matter. Unhurried quality time with your wife and daughter that you can recall years from now when you are in the rocking chairs on the porch having lemonade. Your daughter seems like she might be of the age where she may have some memories of this as well. Even if not, you have such nice photos of the weekend.

You are blessed and fortunate.

Thanks Beagle.  These moments are precious for sure and I don't take them for granted.  Some of my best and most vivid childhood memories are of outdoor excursions with my own parents.  I just hope my little one can say the same one day. :)
