on: August 28, 2017, 03:13:44 PM
I have my Great Grandfathers Pocket Knife from what we believe to be around the 1920s -30s make.
Stamped W.JNO.Baker Hunter St Sydney its in used average condition with a very small piece of the Stag handle splintered off.
I am hoping to learn more about this piece eg value, how rare etc
Thanks for reading

Hi Rob and welcome to Mto   :salute:
I can't personally tell you about your knife but I've googled up a few links  :tu:

W.JNO.Baker also sold a great multitool  knife with 10 tools called a "Baker's wire key". search google with the apostrophes. The wire key tool was subject of an English registered design. A great tool for joining wire to mend fences. All the Baker knives were made in Sheffield
The successor business still operates in Dubbo, a rural centre 300 miles west of Sydney. It services farmers. No more Baker knives sadly and the Hunter Street shop in Sydney is long gone
I'm a corkscrew collector living in Sydney. I'd like to buy this knife for obvious reasons!

First time I heard about corkscrew collecting. I'm sure hook collectors exist too.

That's a nice Farmer's knife.

Bob (j-sews) assures me that some corkscrew collectors can be quite fanatical (worse than MT/SAK collectors, as hard as that may be to believe  :o  )

As a matter of fact, I always liked the wooden handled T shape corckscrews, as well as other designs.

Sparky415 and Ian Baker thank you so much for your interest and information.
I'm finding myself looking at some of these old items just wondering how hard life was during the periods they were crafted and used.
To an experienced collector that may sound a little odd but to me it's if very high interest and your information has helped with that.
Thank you so much
Rob

Ps I will search today as I am sure I have one of his cork screws which may date before his ownership (pre 1915)
