Bonus GAW in honor of the SwissTool Challenge!
on: August 28, 2017, 06:02:26 PM
Lately it seems the Mods here have been a having all the fun giving things away, and they are making me jealous, so here's my chance to enjoy giving something away as well!  I would like to point out that this giveaway is on behalf of a very generous member, who shall remain nameless for his/her own protection!

Here's what we have available:

In case you don't recognize it, you probably aren't alone.  The folks at Victorinox apparently don't have a record of these sheaths, according to the anonymous donor.  What it is, is a horizontal carry sheath with the Victorinox logo on the front, and a Victorinox factory number on the back.

This beautiful leather pouch is a must for anyone that likes horizontal carry....

Yup, that's not all, because inside this awesome sheath is a pocket for a ratchet, bit set, small emergency kit, or whatever doodads you may wish to carry along with what is considered by many to be the absolute best tool available!

See?  I wasn't making that up.... :P

You might be asking how you get this beautiful sheath for your very own- after all, you don't want your SwissTool getting cold at night, right?

Well, it's simple- I want to see a photo of the SwissTool that you are planning to put in this sheath if you win, but as an added wrinkle, I also want to see a stringed instrument in the picture, to help show respect for the musical type man (or men) that may or may not have donated this wonderful tool for this great giveaway!

This draw ends when the SwissTool Challenge does, so you'd better hurry up and get a photo posted!

Def
Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

Thanks, musical man and Def for the GAW.     I'm in.

This is a Fender bass that my 16 year old son borrowed last week.  I'm not nearly that cool, and played the violin (Suzuki method starting at age 4), mandolin, sax, oboe, piano, drums, trumpet, etc.   :salute:

Very generous GAW! The reason I'll forgo my usual eager participation is that both my SwissTools are already fully clothed. One in a sheath like above and one in a slimmer sheath for the multitool only (no space for bit driver or bits). The quality is rather good, witness the fact that I've had them for years with no wear being shown, but they have not been subjected to abuse.

I note with interest Def's remark on these pouches being unknown to Victorinox and I have heard this confirmed by others. I find this hard to believe... not that it detracts from the generous GAW of course

Lads, I am removing myself from contention in this fine giveaway.  I have won plenty of loot over the years, and really need to be giving away more and taking away less.  So I will be monitoring this one closely,  but "I shall not seek and I will not accept the nomination of my party for another term as your" giveaway winner.  Thank you.   :salute:

Thanks for the opportunity, gentlepersons.
I do not play, but I do provide the funds for the instruments and lessons. You may say I'm a patron of the arts, which is a good thing since I'm married to a Master of the Arts (in Music Performance.) The kids call her MA for short, lol. This violin belongs to my youngest and it absolutely does not hurt to hear it played. Never thought I'd say that about one of my own offspring.

There's also a guitar and some brass and multiple woodwinds and this big old stringed instrument in the house:

It's an A. Honestly I liked the Yamaha upright made in Japan -NOT the US -much better.
I play the kazoo, but nobody wants to listen.

Better resonance, better wood; better harp, better tone.
A well played kazoo can sound good although it usually needs another instrument to blend with.

I've dug up some more information on the elusive Swisstool horizontal carry pouch, mainly from combining whatever is left of my memory of events related to my Swisstools and some independent confirmation.

The reason it is so rare these days - to the extent even Vic USA deny its existence? - is because its two variants may only have been included as standard with the first production years of the original model Swisstool, i.e the sets with and witout bit holder/bits, and maybe only in a few countries (Germany being one at least). (Feast you eyes below, fellow members! The left one is without the bit set and comes in a slimmer case)

If memory serves, at some stage Vic switched to vertical pouches and phased out the horizontal ones - I forget the date however. (Maybe this was done because the tools were deemed by many to be too bulky to carry at the 10/2 o' clock position, and at the request of customers the vertical pouch was introduced and then made available exclusively, but that is (informed) conjecture.)

Fact is, Vic have long stopped carrying it and mint ones are rare. You might get lucky to find a battered one that comes with a 1st series SwissTool somewhere on the 'net. Or... participate in this great GAW of course...! Thanks to all involved!

PS: or shall I yet... I believe my oldest son hides some guitars in his cavern....... nah, I'll leave it to you lot.

Here's my entry: my Swisstool and my Yamaha. I have to confess neither has seen much use. I can barely play Green Sleeves, and only with a music sheet tablature in front of me...

What a great looking sheath ...

It's the first time I see one of those, I didn't even know these excisted  :o.

Thank you very much for this awesome giveaway  :hatsoff:.

Here are some pics of my Squier Fender Stratocaster, I bought this guitar when I was 16, played it a lot when I was younger, but can't seem to find the time these days ...  And there's something wrong with it since the sound falls away half of the time, tried another cable, problem remained, opened up the backside of the guitar, gave it some TLC but the problem is still there.  Maybe it's my speaker that's broken, and not my guitar ...

Either way, I really should get it fixed ...  ::).

P.S.: I tried some effects on the pics, hope you guys like them  :salute:.

So, here are the pics:

I was given the job of picking a winner to this.

I made a list with valid entries, and there are 7 that qualified.

I then ran that list into a random picker in batches of 7 tallying a point for each time an entrant came up.

I had to run it 4 cycles before there was no ties... and the completely random winner with 6/28 total random picks is...
