I wonder if a lot of people overlook this model because of the Cadet.  I prefer the control that the extra width provides in hand.

I'll take the Recruit over the Cadet any day.
While the Cadet is a great Alox SAK, it's way too thin and uncomfortable for me. Great for a dress up situation, to have a very discrete SAK on you, but for regular EDC, not so much

The recruit is my favorite cellidor sak. No backtools, flush backsprings, and enough width to really control.  Makes a great sak for whittling, imo.

That's actually why I bought this one a few weeks ago.  I had been using a small Tinker, which was great but I figured I might as well reduce the potential hotspots even more from the backspring tools.

I ended up removing the key ring, I found it got in the way using the small blade.  I also removed the belly from the small blade and made the edge straight.  Basically how Chris Lubkemann modifies his SAKs in his whittling book.

I only have an S16. I kind of like the SAK itself, though i prefer Vic's scissors by far. The only thing i hate (other than the evo scales) is the damn blade lock, in the way, uncomfortable, catches up to stuff in my pocket....
What where they thinking....?

I've grown to like the 85mm locking blade.  I didn't at first but gradually I found I love fiddling with the lock!  Plus for certain situations where you really don't want it to fold up on you it's great.

Yes, it was also his guidance that led me eventually to the Recruit after the Tinker (small), and I plan to do just the same with small blade and keyring.

  Well that, yeah.    But there are some reasonably legit situations such as working with the blade tip inside a hole or indented area or perhaps a tube.  It's rather easy to hit the spine of the blade against one side of the hole, causing the blade to fold up.

The locking blade it a two edge sword... It's kind of cool in a way, but not that bloody lock. But in another way, it's not cool at all because in my country is an instant "no carry", as locking blades are forbidden regardless of blade size, unless it's for a specific, justifiable and verifiable  purpose or activity.
And i'm so used to slip joints that it feels strange not just closing the blade shut.

I felt exactly the same way (except for the legal situation, seems to be ok in most US states) for about a year after I got an S101.  The lever seemed awkward and the lock seemed more nuisance than help.  Somehow when I picked up an S18 it all started to change.  You get seduced and end up coming over to the dark side!  Bwahahahahahaha

In 40+ years of SAK carry, I've never felt the need for a locking blade, and the lock does annoyingly hang up on my pocket or pocket slip.  Also, I seem to never opt for a Delemont Evolution for carry because I can choose a Victorinox that is a tool layer slimmer, e.g. a 5-layer Ranger is as slim as a 4-layer S17/18, and a Huntsman is about 3mm slimmer.  I always choose a Tourist over an S101.

It doesn't work to my advantage, but I have medium-sized hands, and it absolutely makes sense that it would for your larger hands.  This is similar to how a Recruit works very well for me, but a Cadet doesn't for long cutting/whittling sessions.

        Wenger S10.  Pallets full of pumpkins here in the stores.  Jack-o-Lanters fodder.  If you believe what you see on YouTube, the pumpkin pie is virtually unknown in Britain.  Is that so?  One of my favorites, but they seem tastier when they are made with butternut squash.  Vine drilling insect seem to leave the plants alone better than pumpkin also.  Yum.
